November 19, 20232 yr Author I hope they make the ADF functional. About 40 years ago my employer at the time arranged for me to ride in the cockpit for a couple of legs to observe flight operations. It was a real eye opener as I knew very little other than some reading about this machine. Short story: On approach to a large Cdn airport, weather low overcast, reduced viz, light freezing drizzle about 50 miles out we were passed by a 727 on a long more or less straight in approach, Braking action was less than great and the 727 cleared at the end of a 8000' runway, The Dash 7 landed behind as they were clearing and used a fraction of the runway, was at the terminal and unloading passengers when the 727 pulled into its gate. Even though it is not that fast, on a leg of less than 300nm its efficiency and unique abilities were interesting to observe first hand. It was an aircraft i would liked to have had a chance to fly.
