revisiting vr motion reprojection

Featured Replies

never cared for artifacts and judders in vr reprojection mode in the past, but the recent hype in the main forum regarding rtx frame gen caused me to revisit reprojection again.  to my surprise, it wasn't as bad as i remembered it and it was much smoother at the expense of some image quality and fps.  as long i don't move my viewpoint too quickly it works well, and rather see smooth momentary image quality loss than nervous stutters in demanding gfx situations.

i'll give reprojection another try.

I tried this and found that while it was indeed smooth, i just couldn't get my head (eyes really!) around the 'pond ripple' effect on the edges... made me feel i was under water for some reason... is this how it is supposed to be or is there a setting to remove that? I tried it with the new DLSS Ultra Quality mode and must admit it was nice and smooth... then again, i can run it in TAA but is a little more janky...

gave ultra quality dlss + reproj a try instead of taa+reproj and i'm finding the stutters/pauses are softer.  going from ini-kjfk to klga rw04 with pretty dense photogrammetry and airports on the pmdg737 in rt/cloud wx, didn't observe unnerving pauses when scenery loads (just the momentary tear in the eye reproj effect) and quickly turning gazing in the direction of manhattan didn't result in the customary pause.  not sure what's the root cause in softening the stutter/pauses but maybe enabling resizable bar in nvinspector helped?

now of the opinion that in vr, momentary slight image quality loss with general smoothness is better than pauses and stutters with taa.
