January 15, 20242 yr Hopefully maybe here I can get an answer to why on a lot-but not all of VOR's don't grab the signal. Before I get hit on the basics I do have a real license and have used vor's in real life,. Since I'm with FS2020 I'm into the DC'3 and Beech 18's and completely done with the big jets. I'm not the only one who has notice this .Louis CYYC Louis Massicotte ----Alberta

It is important to reference current charts, because many r/w VORs have been decommissioned in the past few years, or converted to DME only. This is a trend which will continue. January 15, 20242 yr Author Yes Jim, that's what wondering also, I'm gonna check with current charts like you say cause I do keep up to date . Was kinda hoping the old ones would still be active so we can fly these ol' clunkers .Flying VFR in this sim ,there's no comparison. I like to go vrf with Skyvector and I'm using those Vor's . and yes I use Simbrief and import the flight plan right in the GTN 750 and the same with the ATR . Right now I'm going from Sudbury Ont. CYBS to Timmins CYTS . Skyvector gives the Vor's for both and the trip is short -about 120 miles, I fly by hand so I like to stay at about 100 to 200 miles the vor in Sudbury won't grab but the one in Timmins does but I haven't checked the real charts like you say yet . January 15, 20242 yr This has been discussed before in other threads but I wonder if someone could offer all VOR's that existed in their heyday as an additional package. Technically it might be possible to export all vor's from an older version and create an addon scenery from it. I don't know whether that is a lot of work or not. Looking at a current Jeppesen low altitude chart, there is no longer a VOR of any kind at Sudbury. There may have been one before, but is apparently gone now. There is still a VOR at Timmins: “YTS” on 113.0 Jim BarrettLicensed Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic, Avionics, Electrical & Air Data Systems Specialist. January 15, 20242 yr YSB as well as ZSB (Sudbuury NDB) were decommissioned Aug12, 2021 so that would explain part of it. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
January 15, 20242 yr Author Well I'll be darned, so now I know and not to rely on Skyvector, I seem to have pretty good luck with the NDB's which is surprising. I took my commercial training in Thunder Bay CYQT ,vor works there but I'm on my way to Sioux Lookout CYXL and it won't work there but the NDB does. Thanks a lot Louis Massicotte ----Alberta
January 15, 20242 yr It was surprising when YNY was decommissioned a few years ago. A major VOR for airways between Vancouver and both Calgary and Edmonton. It had dozens of airways both high and low linked to it. Reduce ground based navaids and reduce the costs of operating and maintaining them I guess. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
