April 14, 20242 yr Aye, this is quite annoying. Silly NZ government. At least though the sim does appear to depict the weather correctly for the region. When I last tested, the weather 200NM from NZAA was matching Windy.com despite NZAA being the closest METAR (for which the winds were different). So you might be able to get away with manually grabbing the METAR from VATNZ.
April 17, 20242 yr If anything the sim weather is a little more realistic and dynamic for the areas where there are no METARs. Sticking too rigidly to METARs makes it worse. After all, METARs are a snapshot of the past at one specific location and point in time.
