Shockwave 3D LIGHTS REDUX

Featured Replies

Don,Far as I can tell, the 3D Lights Redux does not affect the texture of lights as they appear on the ground (which is the root of your complaint.)Here is what these lights look like in the default Baron (note: bug in FSX does not display taxi lights. These are only landing lights.)First, the external ... which clearly displays the 3D nature of the lights, as they appear to project into space in front of the light source:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/181894.jpgClearly an improvement. Now ... the lights as they appear from inside the cockpit. As you can see, the "ground" display is not affected by this software ... but if you study the image close enough, you can detect more light surrounding the front of the nose of the craft.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/181895.jpgHope this answers your question. My opinion is that this software doesn't affect the light texture that you see splashed in front of you on the runway or taxiway ... merely what exudes from the light source in front of you.

>Here is what these lights look like in the default Baron>(note: bug in FSX does not display taxi lights. These are only>landing lights.)No, FSX doesn't have a "bug" as it certainly can display taxi lights......provided the aircraft models actually have them attached to appropriate polygons. At the time of release, the default models did not have "taxi lights" embedded in them. In fact, the code to implement them isn't even in the modeldef.xml file supplied with the SDK, but must be written and added to the modeldef.xml file by the modeler.

Now for the important question. Does the installer still just replace the existing cfg file (and retain the original as a backup) or is it smart enough to simply edit the cfg file?

Not sure. But I would say it is not smart to "simply edit the cfg file" but rather to backup the existing cfg file and replace it with the new one, so that if the software is uninstalled, the user's previous config file can be restored. If you are manually editing your configs, you should probably back them up, so that your changes won't be undone by an uninstall routine.

I understand that. I just wanted to know if the installer still overwrites all of the repaints that I have added to my default aircraft when it installs the lights.

However, I remember the Baron 58 (my primary aircraft) had taxi lights in either FS '02 or '04. Any insight as to why MS would eliminate this seemingly harmless bit of realism, especially since the Baron hasn't really changed at all, at least as far as it looks on screen? (And if it really hasn't changed at all, I've got all of my old CDs. Could I just add an old default Baron to get the taxi lights?)
