Is a permanent mouse cursor normal?

I have just moved from FSX to P3D v4.5. I purposely chose version v4.5 as I felt that my modest machine with only a midrange GPU would be happier with this version plus all the scenery I own is mainly for version 4. I can always acquire licences for later versions down the track.

But I have run into one issue - and that is the mouse pointer never ever disappears when I am in virtual cockpit view. Ever. I was expecting similar behaviour to FSX in that if it was not being used it would simply disappear off the screen after a handful of seconds and re-appear when the mouse is next used. But it is there all the time no matter what. Yes, I can move the mouse to the bottom of the screen but I am just wondering if this is normal behaviour.

All my googling only came up with complaints about people losing their mouse pointer in P3D - not having it stuck there permanently!

Thank you

I have solved it. I am using an Nvidia DSR scaling factor so the resolution in the sim is not the same as the standard desktop resolution. I simply changed the desktop resolution to the simulator resolution prior to launching and now the mouse pointer works perfectly (and disappears as per FSX but obviously now not with the horrible FSX problem of a performance drop when it is visible!).

I've just created a simple bat file automatically changes the resolution and launches P3D, thereby automating it. It automatically changes the resolution back as soon as I close P3D.

I have to say I am really impressed with P3D. I wish I had made the switch sooner. I was probably one of the very last holdouts who was using FSX continually since the original launch and has now moved on 18 years later to P3D!! Still, better late than never!

Yes indeed 🙂 FSX-SE to P3D v4.x was my move too (now at v4.5 HF3).

Also if you have v4.5 you might find the below thread of interest.

As to v5 & 6, I've not looked at v6 for the same reasons you've raised, I also never particuarly prefered v5 due to a series of issues and baggage it carried, however since modifying the v5 shaders and running a custom volumetric clouds config I'm liking v5 much more (5.3 specifically), not to say it still doesn't have it's own issues not present in v4.5 though.

Cheers

Yes, it's 4.5 (and some more numbers after that). When you buy it as of today, the download link they provide only gives the very last version. They even still sell version 3 but I can't really fathom what market that would cater to though I suppose there might be a tiny market for struggling young student pilots who need some desk time and have an old Windows 7 computer with a 1024 x 768 display!!!! I should not laugh - I am consistently years behind both the hardware and software curve but even I dispensed with a display such as that 15 years ago. But of course the 64 bit version was version 4 and that is a no brainer as the minimum for most purchasers. I might have gone for Version 5 if I thought my GPU was up to it but I was concerned about frame rates and I did note that some of the add-ons only mention version 4 and I did not wish to tempt fate.

I am not sure I would go to version 6 unless everything I use would be guaranteed to work with it. But since I stick to a given version of a flight sim for years, I am not overly concerned about my future in flight simming. There are always going to be choices.

I think you can download older versions (for example, 4.4 or 4.3) from the P3D page, in your Downloads area.
