Control over weather download

Featured Replies

Hi,

his might have been already discussed, but I cannot find anymore the topic. Is it there a way to control when to download the weather (like a "download now" button) and then stop updating the weather? This is useful in the following scenario: for free-time limitation, i often plan the flight way before (sometimes 1-2 days) the execution. That implies that i download the weather in my weather program (FSGRW), plan the flight accordingly, compute performance, and then the next time i have a gap in my agenda I execute the planned flight. But at that point LNM has updated the weather and i cannot relay anymore on what's displayed. If there is a way to download and then avoid further updates, that would be great. Note: i am not talking at all of downloading PAST weather.... just blocking the "weather refresh" routine

well... i never mentioned that weather data should be retained after restart! 🙂 That's way too much... i just proposed a "pause" on weather refresh, keeping the data currently available in memory.

But logical since all views, plans and whatnot is reloaded in LNM on restart. 😉
Personally I hate nothing more than applications where I have to do the same stuff again after a restart since all settings are gone.

Will see if I add an option for timeout or a pause menu item.

This can affect only NOAA, IVAO and VATSIM weather which are downloaded from the web but not the other sources.

For some reason LNM is showing me old METAR data today (22h or older). Checked noaa, everything seems ok. Restarted LNM, still the same.
Maybe it's a one-timer. Don't know.

Can happen from time to time. NOAA is not so terribly reliable. Maybe a download which takes forever.

Edit: Yup. Can confirm. Download takes forever and then delivers outdated data.

Hi,

yes it indeed should only apply to downloaded weather. To be honest, i would not think to be an added value to retreive "paused" data on startup, but you are the boss 🙂

My 2 cents: just menu entries to control the download

Auto -> Acts like now. Periodical refresh.

Pause ->Stop the update, keeps in memory the data available

Refresh -> Triggers a download now and move into "auto" state

Easy peasy.

Makes sense. I do similar with the Oceanic tracks.
