VC Rain FX and SP2

Featured Replies

So what's involved in getting VC rain FX with SP2. I thought it would "happen" on its own, but apparently does not (at least not with any of the stock aircraft). I tried copying the VC rain textures from FS9 as suggested by someone in another thread to no avail. Is this an option that must be enabled in a config file?

So far as I know, SP2 never promised FS9-style VC rain. And, so far as I know, doesn't deliver it either.

Hmmm. You wouldn't know it from this thread:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=427430&page=I have not been able to get a straight answer on this subject. I do remember reading about it (one of the ACES blogs I think).EDIT: After a bit more digging, I determined that VC rain effects are non-existent. SP2 adds rain effects to 2D cockpits for FSX aircraft, but that's it.

Just to clarify my comments:1) SP2 never promised FS9-style animated VC windscreen rain effects.2) SP2 doesn't install themThere may be workarounds that users have come up with (and I'm testing those), but out-of-the-box ... it wasn't promised, and wasn't delivered (my view.)

Workarounds? That sounds interesting....please keep us posted, would be interesting to see how that is done since I have no idea how any of this works except that multiple .bmp files animate the rain on the windshield. Is this a texture issue or a combination of issues?

All I can confirm at this point is what you already have read:Copying FS9 "VCRain" effects into the FSX Texture folder does not result in the animated windscreen effects returning to FSX virtual cockpits on default aircraft.

Holy Smoke!FS9 models imported into FSX SP1 or now SP2 that had VC Rain enabled to begin with, will now have said "VC Rain" if the FS9 VC Rain textures are copy/pasted to FSX's texture folder. That is it. It really is that simple!I honestly do not see how it could be stated more clearly... :(

Is it possible to "fix" the default FSX models to make them VC-raindrop ready? Clearly, the FSX engine can support the animated bitmaps that are necessary for the VC raindrops...
