Display issue with Saitek radio panel

Featured Replies

I'm having an odd display issue with my Saitek radio panel in MSFS.  The controls (dials, selectors, buttons) always work fine, but I only get a working display during the occasional session - maybe one time in 10.  I have the latest MSFS drivers and they're loading properly.  Thinking it may be a USB power issue, I moved it to a powered hub but no change.  And the oddest thing of all, when I use the panel test program, I see the same behavior the first time I run it, but the displays work fine every time after.  Wait a few minutes and the behavior reverts back to no display on first run and fully working after.

I'm mystified!

Well, no longer so mystified.  My radio panel is completely dead, and so is my multi-panel.  I'm now actually suspecting that the culprit is my powered hub that I used to try to address the problem.

Nutz!

I don't use the Saitek Longitech drivers for MSFS. I use Axis and Ohs. Another option is SpadNext. With either of these, the panel knobs, buttons are all programmable instead of being locked into a specific functions. I keep the Saitek drivers off of my computer.

As to not displaying, that happened to me. I had to search Windows  control panel Device Manager in both the Human Input Devices and USB sections for every listing (there are lots of them). Properties, Power Management, "Allow the computer to turn off this device" UNCHECK THIS BOX.

If each and every listing, this box must be unchecked. Otherwise Windows definitely will turn them off whenever it wants to. Regardless of any other Windows setting that you have made anywhere else. Only these checkboxes are a reliable switch.

My radio panel was not lighting up. Doing the above cured it. It will probably happen again one day because Windows checks these boxes with updates, and I have to go through and uncheck them all again.

It would be nice if Device Manager told you which USB or HID listing is the Saitek panel, but it doesn't. So I have to visit them all.

Here's how to make Axis and Ohs seize control of a Saitek panel: Just check the box in AaO Menu, Hardware, Check the box Saitek Panel Enabled. Just checking that box is all you have to do, there is no setup required. If you want to go farther and change the functions, then just select the function you want in the drop down box for each button or knob.

Thanks for the response.  I don't use the Logitech drivers either.  I'm a SPAD.next user since my FSX/P3D days and continue to be.  Also familiar with the Windows USB power management issue, which SPAD addresses automatically when run as Admin.  Unfortunately, as noted above, something had fried both my radio and multi-panel - I suspect it was my old powered USB hub.  They're both effectively dead.  I've since replaced the radio panel and also picked up a new powered hub but am on the fence on replacing the multi-panel.

All is well with the new radio panel.
