Should the MSFS windsock be affected by the wind velocity?

Featured Replies

I have created a helipad airport and added what I believe is a built in/stock MSFS windsock.

Even when I set wind speed at ground to more than 60 the windsock just barely 'flaps'.

Is there something I need to do or is that all it 'does'?

John

Thanks.  I place the sim object I selected it from the object 'menu' and clicked on Add then moved it to where I wanted it. I have the wind set ok and set the gusts also yet the sock hardly moves. Is there an 'assistance' settings which would negate that?

[added a few minutes later] a thought occurred to me that in the object menu there could be an object name Windsock. I had added it via Sim Objects and so am testing that now.

In my setup the two Windsocks, the one selected from the Object type and the one from the SimObject are exactly the same and bebave the same.

Thanks. I just can't get the windsock to do anything except indicate very little wind ie hang vertically.

Wondering if I have a problem withy my scenery I downloaded a freeware helipad and the same thing happens (windsock droops and does not appear horizontal.

As such it has something to do with how I have my MSFS installed and/or how I set the wind. It looks ok to me but maybe incorrect.

FIXED.

Who would have thought that the only method of setting windspeed was via the weather 'tab' (menu near top edge of screen).

I was trying to set wind speed via the WEATHER tab which id displayed when selecting departure airport and parking location! What on earth is this there for if you can't use it to set the wind speed?

Could someone please educate me on the use of 'Flight Conditions - custom weather' (ie customise the exact weather parameters for a flight) where the weather including wind velocity at ground level can be set but it doesn't seem to work, That is where I was setting wind velocity at ground level but the windsock stood still. Is it a bug or has my ageing brain missed something?
