Milviz 530/430 gps will not popup from cockpit

Featured Replies

I decided to use the Milviz GPS 530/430 in the MVAMS for my DHC-2 Beavers. I have the RXP 530 but since the Beaver is more of a puddle jumper the RXP database isn't of much use.

The clickspot is there but I can't get the GPS to popup. I tried making my own popup GPS in the panel.cfg, but I guess my ignorance of how the xml  gauge files work didn't allow me to be successful.

Prior to this Milviz xml system, I've always be able to manipulate the panel.cfg to my needs.

What am I missing here?

Hi @mslim,

In the MilViz 530/430 GPS configuration the 530 GPS screen (in the VC) is the clickspot and should pop open with either a left or right click on the screen of the 530.

Just tested on my own MilViz DHC2 Beaver and yep all is working Ok and as per above.

Note: this is the Beaver install version "MilViz DHC-2 Beaver 210720.exe" with my 1.0 + 1.2 + 1.3 updates installed as per this thread.

If you're looking for a more advanced GPS unit that uses the P3D internal DB you might want to look at the GPS2020 which is available in the AVSIM library, last time I looked version 12.4 was the latest.

I'd probably install it into an unused GPS config, like the Mindstar 530 ones.

I do really like the GPS2020 and I think for my next update to the DHC2 I will pre-install the GPS2020 using the Mindstar GPS option as the install point.

Cheers

When I click on it, I get a one time flash of a rectangular window but it immediately goes away. Could this indicate an anomaly in any xml file perhaps?

I will download your suggested GPS2020 but could you post an example of the syntax of how you integrated it into the Mindstar GPS option.

Could be, but without seeing the files it would be just an assumption.

Assuming you've installed the v1 update you could install/reinstall the 1.2 & 1.3 updates which will bring the default back to the std. MilViz 530/430 without the Weather radar,  then use MVAMS to configure your GPS/WX options and loadouts etc.

If you're running p3D v4.5 there would need to be a few changes, like comment/uncomment a few effects (optional) and comment/uncomment the weather radar options in the various WX panel configs so you could use the MilViz WX option, or just change the RolASNRadar.dll to the v2 version if you wanted to stick with Roland's WX Radar.

What P3D version are you running ?

Is there anything particular about your DHC2 install ?

Cheers

I'm running V4.5.

As far as I know it's the MilViz DHC-2 Beaver 210720 default install. I have downloaded your Community 1.0 and 1.3 but have not installed them yet. I didn't download 1.1 as I read it was intended for V5+ only. What do you recommend for V4.5 only?

Also I have located all my addon aircraft on my F: drive and connected them to the P3D root folder on my C: drive by a junction link. Should the Sim Objects folder overwrite the DHC2 folders on the F: drive or should it be installed strictly into the Root folder as your Release Notes indicate?

Hi @mslim,

For P3D v4.5 I recommend installing the updates e.g. "MilViz DHC-2 Beaver 210720.exe" + update 1.0 + 1.2 + 1.3, it's really a different plane with the updates installed what with the flight model and autopilot updates etc.

Then decide if you want to run the MilViz WX or Roland's Radar WX (noting Roland's Radar requires Active Sky), because in P3D v4.5 you can have such a choice but not in P3D v5.3 ~ v5.4 where Roland's radar is the only choice.

For Roland's Radar download the v2 package from AVSIM library (details are in the update notes) and replace the dll in the Panel folder and that's it, ready to use MVAMS to configure and fly.

Otherwise you can comment the Roland's Radar gauge in the WX panels and uncomment the Milviz gauge.

There are also a few effects that can be commented/uncommented (optional) as there are better effects for P3D v4.5 in the aircraft configs, but it won't matter really as they are just default otherwise.

There would be 10 aircraft.cfg to edit for the effects and 7 panel.cfg to edit to swap to the MilViz WX.

And when updating most of the work is in the V1.0 update, as it's the point where effort is needed to fix the inconsistancies MilViz introduced, but hey, it's easy, just follow the instructions and you should have no probs.

I couldn't say how your junction points might work, not having seen them, all I can say is I tried a similar method myself (junction points) and decided it wasn't worth it given the way I use P3D.

Try it out yourself, if it all works then great and let everyone know, otherwise transfer the beaver folders to the appropriate folder in the sim root.

Cheers

PS, this is what the default GPS config looks like popped out (MilViz 530/430 with no WX).
