What airports do you feel lack quality scenery for Prepar3D?
My vote is for KVNY one of the busiest general and business aviation airports in the US.

Looks like a new monitor is in my future. Which one?
mslim replied to mslim's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcThat's a good price on the BG65. Walmart is $50 higher. $300 is a bit of a push on my budget. I need to buy a new audio mixer for my band, my BMW R90 is charging at 10 volts instead of 14 so I'm pretty strapped for money. Not to mention a trip to the grocery store. I don't "game" anything other than P3D. I'm not up on tech specs so, would the BG65 offer any advantages that my GTX970 gpu could take advantage of over the Samsung G50 QHD?

Looks like a new monitor is in my future. Which one?
mslim replied to mslim's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcThanks for the rec Stan. I'm sure that OLED looks great but it's about double my budget for my antiquated rig. Don't blame you for going first cabin with your new Jetline.

Looks like a new monitor is in my future. Which one?
I'm running P3D 4.5 on a Win7 64 OS. When I boot up from overnight cold, the monitor screen alternately flashes between normal display and black rhythmically. I ran an OCCT stress test on the Geforce GTX970 video card yesterday and it did not show any errors. Needlessly to say my system is long in the tooth, but P3D is running smoothly and I really don't want to deal with configuring Win 11 and all the MS BS. I don't have a problem with throwing 200-250 USD toward a new monitor. My desk cutout opening is only 26" wide horizontally so I'm not sure what is the largest monitor would be that will fit. I believe the current ASUS is a 27" diagonal but I'm not sure. Any on point suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Recommendation single engine turbo prop
I know you've got the C208 but I paid for the MilViz PC6 and the TurboOtter. Skip the TurboOtter even for free. It's a dog. I love the PC6 though and it's my favorite bush plane. Give it a try.

Is my hardware adequate for DCS?
I'd like to give DCS a try, especially the helicopters to see if they fly more realistically than in P3D4.5. Take a look at my antiquated specs and see if I should even bother downloading the demo. Milviz DHC-2 Beaver Update
Sorry Gerard. I'm not very conversant with the xml addon method. Wish I were. I am essentially an analogue dinosaur living out the rest of his life in a digital world.😉

Milviz DHC-2 Beaver Update
Rogen thanks for all your good work. It was quite an undertaking for you no doubt. I went back and did the cleanup and then did all the updates in sequence. I flew a wheeled and a straight float iteration and everything seemed good. The autopilot seems much improved. I'm used to leaning piston engines for altitude. Before and after the updates, the mixture control didn't seem to have much effect either on the cylinder head temp or the running of the engine. I know this was likely the result of the MV designers.

Milviz DHC-2 Beaver Update
I messed up when I did the updates. I didn't execute the file cleanup before the update. Is there a harm to the install if I try to clean them up now? Do I have to delete everything and start from scratch with MV file, then cleanup, and redo the updates?

Milviz DHC-2 Beaver Update
FWIW I have the DHC2 installed outside my root P3D folder and accessed with a junction or symbolic link. I don't profess to understand how it works but it does work on my P3D 4.5/ Win7 Pro system. It seems that MVAMS is functional.

Milviz 530/430 gps will not popup from cockpit
I'm running V4.5. As far as I know it's the MilViz DHC-2 Beaver 210720 default install. I have downloaded your Community 1.0 and 1.3 but have not installed them yet. I didn't download 1.1 as I read it was intended for V5+ only. What do you recommend for V4.5 only? Also I have located all my addon aircraft on my F: drive and connected them to the P3D root folder on my C: drive by a junction link. Should the Sim Objects folder overwrite the DHC2 folders on the F: drive or should it be installed strictly into the Root folder as your Release Notes indicate?

Milviz 530/430 gps will not popup from cockpit
When I click on it, I get a one time flash of a rectangular window but it immediately goes away. Could this indicate an anomaly in any xml file perhaps? I will download your suggested GPS2020 but could you post an example of the syntax of how you integrated it into the Mindstar GPS option.

Milviz 530/430 gps will not popup from cockpit
I decided to use the Milviz GPS 530/430 in the MVAMS for my DHC-2 Beavers. I have the RXP 530 but since the Beaver is more of a puddle jumper the RXP database isn't of much use. The clickspot is there but I can't get the GPS to popup. I tried making my own popup GPS in the panel.cfg, but I guess my ignorance of how the xml gauge files work didn't allow me to be successful. Prior to this Milviz xml system, I've always be able to manipulate the panel.cfg to my needs. What am I missing here?

Is Nick N's guide applicable to Skylake processors?
Pretty much what the title says. Is Nick N's guide still applicable to I7-6700K processors and GTX 970 cards? mslim

will FSX-SE run on Macbook Air?
Thanks for the refurb tip. I will check it out. Could you not run an outboard data drive thru the USB 3.0 or the Thunderbolt port for 3rd party scenery? Slim

will FSX-SE run on Macbook Air?
Thanks for the tip on the 8gb ram. I am going for the 13" screen. By FTX do you mean the global mesh or the actual scenery regions? I don't have the mesh but I have pretty much narrowed my flying down to the West Coast of the USA and Canada as well as the Rocky Mountains. Do you keep your scenery on an outboard drive? The 256gb internal hard drive seems like it would fill up fast. Slim

will FSX-SE run on Macbook Air?
My wife has got it in her mind she wants our next computer to be a Macbook Air. I see they are available with an Intel I7 processor and I've heard Bootcamp allows you to run Windows programs but are there any avid FSX or P3D users running the sim successfully on their Macbooks? I'm interested in your experiences pro or con before I make the purchase. Thanks, Slim

new payware KVNY Van Nuys scenery
Just to set the record straight here... I am not a "promoter" of any sort. I'm just a Flightsim guy like the rest of you here that desperately wanted a decent Van Nuys airport. I have purposefully waited to respond to give Glenn Johnson a chance to work on a solution. KVNY is special to me as I did a lot of RW flying out of it back in the day. I had previously tried to get Aerosoft interested in doing it for a couple of years but they never got off the dime. When Glenn Johnson came forward and said he wanted to do Van Nuys, I tried to help by confirming some details and taking some pictures for him. I did beta testing for him using the RealAir Citabria and I had VAS and OOM issues that I reported to him and he worked on. My machine is so low spec that I figured I was the "worst case scenario" beta tester for him. How his scenery performed on more capable computers I have no idea. At some point he decided KVNY was ready to be released to the public. WinXP Pro SP3 Intel Core Duo CPU E7500 2.93ghz 4GB Ram Radeon HD4350 Suffice to say that Glenn is very aware of the problem and working on a patch. Also I'd like to give a shoutout to scianoir for his objective way of posting his problems. Clutch Cargo sounds like he might have some optimization tips on the "art of scenery development" so I'd encourage him to contact Glenn through his website and perhaps offer some suggestions. Best Regards, Slim

Hotas X Thrustmaster reliability?
I would like to buy a Warthog HotasX throttle and joystick from Thrustmaster. I would like to have the dual throttles for Baron 55, Twin Otter, DC3, and Bronco. It is a large expenditure for me at $400-500. I am concerned about the lack of reliability and the alleged poor customer service from Thrustmaster. I know AvSim represents a large group of FlightSim users. I would be very interested in hearing (only) first hand accounts of user experiences with the Warthog Hotas X before laying down what is a large sum of money for me. Thanks in advance. M_Slim

Milviz B55 or C310?
The MV Baron55 has one of the best looking GA steam gauge cockpits I've seen. I love the needle deflection on the ammeter. It amazes me how many developers overlook this item which is on most, if not all checklists. Maybe the cockpit designer could chime in with some suggestions?

Stock Maule M7, is out there something similar?
+1 here. I love my RealAir Scout. It's my "go-to" aircraft, but I've got to put in a word for the default Maule. It and the Beaver are very nice aircraft for circa 2005. Just as an interesting aside. I was at SZP last week and met a Scottish gentleman with a new Maule M4-180V in the yellow livery. It was a two seater with the old style tail. Very lovely. Apparently Maule was looking at the M4 with a Rotax but couldn't meet the LSA standards weight spec.

Help with Bluesky scenery airports
You have another AFCAD for the same airport that is activated and is supplying the second tower. You must root around and find the conflict. Rather than totally deleting it, I created a folder in Scenery called "Removed AFCADs". Just park it there so you can reinstate it if you change your mind.
