September 20, 20241 yr Hey all, I’ve just picked up a 7900XTX for a reasonable price and upgraded from a 3080 10 Gig. On the 3080, I found DX11 to work well and never bothered to try get my DX12 to work well. I tried DX12 now with the 7900XTX and although the FPS is high at 1440P, I feel like there are what feels like stutters and motion isn’t smooth. I don’t mind going back to DX11 but thought it worthwhile to get some tips from the room on how they are running AMD cards in MSFS as in my research of buying the card I saw many seemed to believe DX12 was the best.
September 20, 20241 yr Author Okay, so DX11 is much smoother but I have another albeit minor issue. if I fly with V-Sync On in MSFS, MSFS seems to think my monitor refresh rate is 60hz and caps me at 60fps. My monitor is a 165hz with FreeSync Premium Pro. If I turn of V-Sync, I get bad screen tearing. On my 3080, I never had this issue so never tried V-Sync off. any ideas?
September 20, 20241 yr I also use 7900 xtx and I don't have any stutters, it's extremely smooth for me and I only use DX12. I'm flying only with 320 fenix, activesky and FSLTL Traffic. In the game menu I left the settings for MSFS all disabled. Edited September 20, 20241 yr by Ricardo Andrada
September 20, 20241 yr I've been flying Dx12 successfully for quite a few months now, absolutely no issues whatsoever, no CTD's, very smooth, no mods. I leave my monitor at 120 Hz, disable V-Synch in MSFS and in AMD adrenalin I limit the frame rate target control to 42 FPS to save energy and not heat up the card too much. With this configuration it is extremely smooth for me.
September 20, 20241 yr Author Okay, so in the change of cards. Windows reset my display settings and that is where the 60hz and 60fps limit was coming from. I’ll give DX12 another run later. I tend to think that this could have also influenced my DX12 performance.
