September 29, 20241 yr Hi everyone! Just now after finding my old FS9 DVDs, I started tuning it up as it was 7 years ago when I last played it! Soon then I got an issue regarding my texture. Actually I own the freeware ENVTEX and ORBX textures as well as the payware REX + overdrive. So my doubt is that can I use all the 3 together. Moreover do I need to follow some sequence of which to install first? Thank you! September 29, 20241 yr I'm unfamiliar with any of the packages in question, but my approach when installing something that is likely to make major changes is to do so in a "sand-box" installation, where nothing else is installed, so I can evaluate exactly what is achieved. I keep a "default build" on a USB drive that I copy onto my main drive for evaluation purposes, then I just delete it when I'm finished. I'll then apply the package to my "main" installation if I decide it's something I want to use. It's not unknown for the installation of a second (or third) aftermarket package to mess up the de-installation routine for a previously installed package, so multiple backups can be useful if one needs to revert (or possibly update) without having to start again from scratch.
September 29, 20241 yr I would use REX & not bother with the others, make backups of your scenery files first. I have a complete FS2004 install on a spare portable drive, so it is easy for me to copy & paste scenery folders if I'm getting issues. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
September 30, 20241 yr Author Thank you for your replies! I have installed REX + ORBX ground textures combinations. Actually I found that the ORBX ground textures are far more better than REX. September 30, 20241 yr I stand corrected, but I think ORBX ground textures are modded from FSX. I've also used FS2004 The Natural World 2019 - FS2004 Scenery - FlightSim.Com Howard's textures are very good indeed - Have a look here.. Howards Mix TNW Scenery (biggles11.wixsite.com) It's worthy of a try! Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...

Yeah, Orbx ground textures are just the same as FSX ground textures. 17 hours ago, Wobbie said: I've also used FS2004 The Natural World 2019 - FS2004 Scenery - FlightSim.Com Thank you for this, I will surely have a try... As much as I remember Tile Proxy too gave a superb ground texture effect to FS2004. I am thinking to install it once again if it does some good to this old but gold Sim! 😊 "When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it." - Henry Ford Rupayan Ghosh, New Delhi, India
October 1, 20241 yr I tried Tile Proxy some time ago, for South Africa. I was not happy at all with the results. There were a lot of cloud overlays on top of the scenery, also, I thought it too 'one dimensional' or flat. Myself & a friend spent hours downloading, and it was too much of a mission to do proper coastlines, etc. So we gave up on it, and used various combinations of TNW 2019, REX, ORBX & even some of Bill Lyon's water. October 2, 20241 yr Author @Wobbie Thanks for that, I think Tile Proxy will mess the things for me! Would you kindly suggest me some good freeware water textures which can be more better than REX... October 2, 20241 yr Phew, there are quite a few.. I just had a quick look here, at our library: AVSIM Library What you can also do, is to download "The Natural World" into a temp directory, & try his water effects (copy & paste). Make a backup of your Texture & Scenery folders, so you have the defaults to put back if you don't like the replacements. As far as clouds go, this is arguably the best: AVSIM Library Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
October 2, 20241 yr If you really want to tune up FS2004, have a look here: There are links available, of the software he uses, all free. Or pop me a Private Message with your email, & I will send you the stuff (& more). Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
October 2, 20241 yr I've really thrown everything (including the kitchen sink) at FS2004, with separate multiple installs, such as a Space install, a Vintage install, Golden Wings & an install using all the scenery, planes & textures from the 'Ford Tri-Motor Project' site Welcome to the Ford Project (ford-tri-motor.net) I'm using almost all freeware scenery & add-ons (to support the guys that really still support FS2004) At the moment, I'm running 2 unique installs. A normal install, modded scenery, clouds etc., that is quite huge, as well as a 'Platinum Wings' install, info that I found on another site. This PW install, covers the Golden Wings era up to the 1940's. This install has been modified & all airports from outside that era has been removed & the scenery 'rolled back' to that era. I've also added a lot of Alaska Bush flying scenery into that. As I said, pop me a Private Message (& your email), for any info. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
October 2, 20241 yr Author Thank you for your detailed reply! 3 hours ago, Wobbie said: What you can also do, is to download "The Natural World" into a temp directory, & try his water effects (copy & paste). Yeah I will surely do it in the coming weekend! 3 hours ago, Wobbie said: If you really want to tune up FS2004, have a look here: There are links available, of the software he uses, all free. Actually I have seen this video years ago and did everything as said but I think Envtex textures lack any reality. Moreover REX as a Payware is really nice and better than these freeware although Orbx ground textures significantly add a different taste! October 2, 20241 yr Author Regarding Ford Tri Motor, I wasn't happy with the results I got. I downloaded some of them years back but none of them were looking to be a promising scenery! Sorry for it, but it's the truth of mine! October 2, 20241 yr I did not use any of the Envtex textures, I used mainly from The Natural World. Just to confirm, I'm using Windows 11, 16GB RAM, with my sims running of a 2TB portable drive. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...

Sure, I quite liked the India scenery, Blackhawk, Swiss and his Timor scenery with floating runways, circular runways and Ramps. It's obviously not realistic, but a lot of fun. I was a beta tester for Garry, who was the developer, for an unreleased Death Star Project. I liked his comment, that simming is all about Fun, Facts & Fiction. BTW, his Fordlandia scenery in South America actually represented Heny Ford's city there, for the workers for the rubber plantations. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
