September 30, 20241 yr Hello, I was a long time member here, but it seems my account is gone now, so I have re-registered. Thanks for having me. Now to my problem . . . . A QUESTION OF RAM . . . So I am buying a new desktop PC, ready for November's release of FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2024. I have pre-ordered the COLLECTORS EDITION. Here are the new PC specs agreed with a company called WIRED2FIRE here in the UK:- _____________________________________________________ CASE - NZXT H9 Flow - Black CPU - Intel Core i9-14900k CPU 24 cores Graphics - NVidia GeForce RTX 4090 24GB RAM Video Card _____________________________________________________ System RAM - 128GB Crucial 4800Mhz DDR5 (4 x 32GB) - <-- HERE IS MY QUANDRY . . .! Would prefer - (2 x 64GB) 128GB DDR5 RGB RAM 5600Mhz ------------------------------------------------------------------------ System Drive - 4TB Samsung 990 Pro NVME M.2 SSD - PCIE 4.0 MOBO - Asus ROG Strix Z790-H Gaming WiFi DDR - LGA 1700 Motherboard Ports - 7 x USB 3.2 1 x USB Type C 2 x USB 2.0 ROG Supreme FX 7.1 Audio WiFi 6E and Bluetooth v5.3 CPU Cooler - Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360mm CPU Watercooler CPU paste - Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Cable Management - Standard - with option for 2 x SATA internal drives to be mounted Power Supply - 1000W Kolink 80+ Gold Modular Power Supply Sound Card - Onboard HD 5.1/7.1 Audio NETWORK - Standard Mobo Network OS - WINDOWS 11 _____________________________ The reason I am going with this system is, not only for MSFS2024, but I also edit videos so need plenty of RAM and I will be using this PC for at least the next four years, so I want to future proof as much as possible. Now to my question . . . . SYSTEM RAM. I thought that getting 128GB of fast Ram would be useful, not only exceeding the 64GB ideal requirement noted by Microsoft for the new SIM, but also for video editing and the like. However, I am seeing advice that says this amount of Ram will, to some extent, cause instability in the PC and Windows 11. Many vendors I spoke to are recommending only up to 96GB (2 x 48GB sticks). So I put it to the experts here . . . what do you think? Is there some truth in this issue? Should I only go up to 96GB? I really appreciate any advice or comments. Thank you guys. September 30, 20241 yr Moderator Long time no see Lee! 😁 Welcome back to civilisation! Excellent system although are you aware of issues with the Intel i9-13900 and 14900 chips which could cause instability? I have one myself and upgraded the BIOS as advised by Chillblast where I got mine from a year ago. Mine is fine but not all are. Have a word with your supplier. The AMD equivalent chip is strongly recommended. I'm sure others will advise. Ray (Cheshire, England). System: P3D v5.3HF2, Intel i9-13900K, MSI 4090 GAMING X TRIO 24G, Crucial T700 4Tb M.2 SSD, Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Hero, 32Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000Mhz RAM, Win 11 Pro 64-bit, BenQ PD3200U 32” UHD monitor, Fulcrum One yoke, Fulcrum Throttle Quadrant. Hi mate! 🙂 I have been a ChillBlast customer for some 8 years (bought 3 PC's from them) and I was never aware of any issues with the CPU - it was the higher RAM that was the question mark. Right now, I have my own YouTube channel where I review products for the Simulator and showcase some flying adventures and so I wanted a system with plenty of fast RAM to allow for the requirements of the new MSFS2024 to be released in November and to future proof the system and make video editing a breeze. But I am seeing many vendors stating that 128GB of RAM which will have to be in 4 slots (4 x 32GB sticks) is the problem and they recommend 96GB (2 x 48GB sticks) which will be really good. From many years ago, Flight Simulator was always written to use the INTEL chip and NOT the AMD chip with many users reporting problems with the SIM when using an AMD CPU. Maybe this has changed, I'm not sure. This was a long time ago, not long after MS acquired the programme from SubLogic and the Sim's original creator Bruce Artwick. To be honest, I would prefer to stick with INTEL myself. But that's just my preference. ___________________ Would love to talk about this - send me your number privately - leejames[at]virtualairlinepilot.org Always value your thoughts. regards, Lee

Seems Intel are pushing their new processors a bit too hard resulting in higher temps. Enjoy MSFS. I’m sticking with P3Dv5 as everything is running perfectly. The pros outweigh the cons for me. I’ll send you an email later. Lots to catch up on. 😉 Ray (Cheshire, England). September 30, 20241 yr I would just buy the ram setup you want but be ready to put it through its paces. If it starts to wig out, RMA the ram for something else. Edited September 30, 20241 yr by VeryBumpy

To be clear, it's not that the temperatures are higher, it's that the voltage is out of spec and eventually kills the CPU.
