Autogen draw distance, horizon queries

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi all,

I have a couple of questions.  Run P5D with 30HZ vysync (set in sim) on a 6700K/1080.

I have autogen draw distance set to very high, LOD to ultra.  I noticed on a long-haul flight at night over Europe that cities below would load in square patches with autogen, and some without - which looked pretty ugly as the city does not look uniform in the patches with/without autogen.  The same on approach to EGLL.  Is this known as autogen popping?  What settings are you guys running at and is there any remedy to make autogen look as good as possible?

The other question pertains to the horizon at night.  The moon reflects on the water, but at a certain distance to the horizon, all water detail is lost and the reflection looks totally different.  It's a distinct change and looks ugly.  Anyone noticed/solved this?

Some other posts suggested fibre times, FPS caps etc. but I'm not sure they were specifically about this, and were quite old posts, mainly for v4.  Any advice would be appreciated!

Cheers,
Rudy

It's a mix of the scenery and the aircraft.
I find if I drive one of the simple aircraft included I can have all the sliders maxxed with no draw-in etc.
Drive a complex aircraft (or a poorly made one) and I suffer frame rate drop (half or more), draw in etc.

Unfortunately Autogen draw distance is a resource hog and i have mine set too high and even the most powerful pc can be put on its knees i find it the biggest frames rate hog setting within P3D.
