Iceland terrain texture issues

Featured Replies

I have just completed an early morning flight from BIAR Akureyri to BIKF Keflavik in the PMDG 737-600. Whilst most of the terrain looked fine, I noticed some issues whilst flying over a large ice covered area that is located about 50-100 miles northeast of Reykjavik.....

  • visible joint lines between photoscenery and a more generic white snow texture
  • polygonal areas of obvious default scenery
  • tile popping issues in front of me (like generic default snow textures were being drawn over photoscenery)

I guess that this is another example of inconsistent terrain image quality in more northern areas of the globe? Disappointing, to say the least. Default terrain textures and issues like this are extremely annoying. In fact, they will stop me from flying across this part of Iceland. I have not tolerated default terrain textures in flight simulation for a quarter of a century, and I do not intend to start now.

I saw a few other issues when approaching the small southern ice field of Iceland (northeast of the island of Heimaey) during a flight from BIKF Keflavik to EKVG Vagar. In fact, the issues seem to be connected to these areas of extended ice covered terrain. The high ground immediately to the east of the river mouth in this area had "tile popping" issues (default snow textures visible from longer range, and then disappearing one by one as I approached).

I would love to know if there is a fix for these appearing and disappearing default textures
