November 20, 20241 yr For those who have been actually able to use the new sim, I'm curious - For those of us not interested in hyper-accurate rocks, grass, trees, or migrating herds of goats, preferring to fly airliners only. What *exactly* is better in FS24 vs FS20? Mind you, I have a high-end system, so I don't have any performance issues, so that's not a factor. Are the clouds better? Better looking custom airports? How is the FS24 default Max vs iFLY? What exactly? Obviously, FS24 is the future, and we'll all have to move to it at some point, but assuming the server issues get resolved, what are us tubeliner drivers missing in FS24 compared to FS20? When FS20 came out I purchased it on day one but it was such a mess that I went right back to P3D for 2 years. Today, and thousands of dollars in addons and hardware invested in FS20, I never fail to be amazed by something every time I fly. So what is the compelling reason to pay $100+ today for FS24 vs next week or next year? Thanks, Mike T.
November 20, 20241 yr V1simulations did a livestream yesterday including a full flight in the 737Max, he's a 'real airline captain' and his stuff is pretty good. Max is 2 hours in, summary nowhere near as good as the iFly. FS24 includes the new planner and Lido charts, very good if you don't have or want to cancel a Navigraph subscription. Airport scenery generally improved, weather better I think. Not yet made the jump myself...not in a hurry. ...
November 20, 20241 yr I've done one airliner flight with the A330 so far. Aircraft is very solid for a default aircraft, it'll easily tide me over until the payware airliners are compatible with MSFS 2024. From an airliner point of view, weather seems improved -- on my flight, the clouds were layered in a way that I don't think I've ever seen in MSFS 2020. May just have been luck, but it was definitely satisfying. And in general, the atmospheric lighting and just the colors in general seem more lifelike -- no longer as "washed out" as in MSFS 2020.
November 20, 20241 yr I checked out Telluride which was a custom airport in 2020 and is still on the list of customs in 2024. No one even glanced at this airport while 2024 was being developed. There's about a 50 foot dropoff from the ramp area to the rest of the airport. It is impossible to taxi from parking to the runway without falling off a cliff. I'm sure these things will get fixed, but a ball was definitely dropped in the airport department. On the other hand, the non-custom airports I looked at are much better than 2020. My home airport now has 3d hangars, and in the correct places. The 2020 version has a bunch of cement pads where, apparently, a massive fire burned the whole airport down. And the runway markings are crisp all the way down the runway. There isn't an inexplicable LOD falloff 20 feet out from the cockpit anymore (and yes, I had my settings set much higher than that - it's just something 2020 always did with me). The clouds looked fine, but they were wrong. I flew around my city. It rained all day yesterday in the real world but in the sim it was mostly sunny. That might be a setting issue - I was too busy investigating other things to poke around with the weather engine. A 170 was the highest performance plane I flew in trials yesterday, so I wasn't able to get close to the clouds which were quite high. I'll be interested to see if that weird pixelated fuzziness at the edges of the clouds has been fixed. Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light

Something must have happened to the elevation data since the last time it was tested. it also seems to be trying to load both the 2020 and 2024 version of Telluride, buildings are spawning inside of each other.
