When you select a gate at your departure airport, it places you outside the aircraft at that gate.  I assume now you have to do a preflight checklist including a walk around. 

In the EFB, there is a checklist that I saw in a previous flight.  I am unable to see it in my EFB in the current flight.

Once you complete the walk around, does it automatically put you in the cockpit?

Shift+C is the default binding to enter and exist the aircraft.

Some aircraft will also put you in automatically if you open the main door.

When doing shift-c does it skip the pre-flight checklist as well ? e.g. does it remove covers, etc. ? Or is there a shortcut for that ?

It does not take off the covers/chocks when you shift c into the cockpit and I don’t know of a shortcut to do so. As far as I know if your starting cold and dark you have to preflight the exterior.
