I stupidly deleted the 'wrong' Shaders folder, in the P3Dv5 install folder and not in appdata.

Is there a way to restore it other than reinstalling the whole thing?

As per "Poppets" post from 2017................

Go to your Prepar3D v5 download folder,  Right Click on Install_Client.msi and Click Repair  This will give you a Default (New) ShadersHLSL back 

 Delete your Shaders folder found here  Local Disk (C:) ► Users ► you ► AppData ► Local ► Lockheed Martin ► Prepar3D ► Shaders

 Launch Prepar3D and confirm all is good again

Hmmm...latest client installer says "Another version of this product is already installed...use add/remove programs"...which would uninstall the client.

EDIT: I've an older version of P3Dv5 installed than the latest, so I downloaded the right 'legacy' installer, that gets to the Repair option but sadly fails looking for a cab1.cab file.

Any thoughts before I bit the bullet with a full reinstall?

Why is it failing? Can you see this file in the folder?

BTW. I have un/installed P3D many times, it's no big deal to set up again.

If you want download Lorbys addon organiser (it's free) and make a quick backup of all the cfg. and settings files beforehand and then just use the app to restore them.

It really is that easy.

Well I uninstalled the client, downloaded the latest client and content and installed both over the old scenery files...and now it wont start - rebuilds scenery indexes then after a couple of seconds goes to 100% cpu on one core and hangs.

Tried deleting config files to be rebuilt but no difference.

@keithb77, you should have uninstalled Content and Scenery before installing the newest versions.

Uninstall in this order…

Content

Scenery

Client

Reboot and run the main P3Dv5.4 installer. Remember to retain your licence when prompted.

Though I didn't see any option to uninstall content and scenery for V5 - it was there for V4 but for 5 only the client.

That probably explains the problems you've had. Do you have v4 and v5 installed?

Yes, I reinstalled V4 a few months ago

I've now got a V5 Content un-install option, having just installed it,

They're entirely independent of each other. Treat them separately.

You should be installing the main component of v5. Not client, scenery or content. Those will be installed automatically. Uninstall v5 Content and run the main P3Dv5 setup.exe installer.

LATER: The file you need to run is named Setup_Prepar3D.exe. It's there together with all the CAB files once the main file is unzipped.

Yes, just done a full install to a new folder and it works 🙂 thanks!
But sadly I still have the problem I was trying to fix by deleting the shaders folder in the first place - a visual jerk every few seconds, back to the drawing board on that one!

If you’re running Windows 11 you need to tell the system to ignore many files as the protection system is quite aggressive.
