December 24, 20241 yr I fly in South Florida and down to the Keys as this is my home area. I have always thought that the Everglades looked like it would be perfect for doing some great sea plane bush flying. Of course, in reality this is impossible. Sea planes are not allowed to land in the Everglades and even then, there is no "destinations" to go to. But, hey, this is what makes Flight Simulators great, right? The ability to do something that you can't do in real life? Well, I have taken a few days and come up with my "Everglades Fantasy". Here is my write up. I am thinking of uploading this to flightsim.to, but I am not sure if "fictional" stuff like this would get any traction. Would any bush flyers out there be interested in having these new destinations available to use in the Everglades? Here is my "pitch": ----- Everglades Fantasy This scenery seeks to add a little seaplane bush flying fun to the Everglades in the USA. Everglades National Park is a National US park located in the southern tip of Florida. Seaplanes are not allowed to land in the Everglades (unless given extraordinary permission by the supervisor of the park.) However, in this fictional Everglades Fantasy, Everglades National Park has decided to install some nice rustic cabins in the park to generate additional revenue, near to its existing campsite locations and close to its Chickees (Chickees are elevated platforms in the Everglades National Park that provide camping above the water). The park has named all of the new Cabins and extra Seaplane docks after the existing campsites and Chickees. It has also contracted with your Seaplane company to provide all flights to and from these cabins. There are no seaplane bases or navaids at these cabins, just a seaplane dock, so a good map and some GPS coordinates will be the way for you to get to these. You will have to overfly to see what the best landing is for any given cabin. Some landings are pretty easy, some will require a bit of bush flying acumen. There are 22 cabin sites and six beach campsite locations. A Marina has been set up as base of operations for your company, Flamingo Marina. Of course, given that you are a full-service charter company, you also provide service to the cabins from nearby existing airports and seaplane bases. Primarily: X51 - Homestead General Aviation, east of the cabins and closest to Miami. X01 - Everglades Airpark, west of the cabins and closest to Naples on the west coast. 42FL - Plantation Key Seaplane Base. This water only start is south and east of the cabins. Of course, nothing is stopping you from providing services from further locations. KMTH Marathon, KTMB Miami Executive, KMKY Marco Island, KAPF Naples Muni. The occasional private charter has also been booked all the way from KEYW Key West. ----- All of the Cabins and Campsite landing locations have been set up as POI, so they are visible in the planning map and in the world if you have POI set to be visible in the game. Selecting a POI as a start location, however, will place you in the air. The recommended way to start at any of the locations and the Flamingo Marina, is to select some water next to the POI and then select to start on the ground, either cold and dark or with the motor running and ready for takeoff. There is no way to moor to the seaplane docks, so my preferred method is to beach the boat next to the cabin or dock and use Shift-C to get out and walk to the cabin.
