January 6, 20251 yr Happy new year all. I have almost given up on msfs24 in my quest 2. However I think maybe it’s time to try Virtual Desktop as a last resort i have seen posts about this needing a good router. I have just upgraded my broadband to ee wi fi 7 and get download speeds on wi fi of around 500mb Is this ok for this type of set up ? also does vir Desktop work for other apps as well such as F1 23? I have been using the link cable but would be nice to go wireless is it easy to set up ? Any one have aset up guide for dummies link ? 😀 many thanks for any advise Edited January 6, 20251 yr by Bozdog 3080rtx on a i7 12700k with 32 Gig ddr5. 2gig Ssd Quest 2 Windows 11
January 6, 20251 yr Hi, yes it works with everything I've tried. I find quest link looks a little better in general, however, at the moment 2024 runs better for me using VD than link. I hope someone gets link sorted soon.
January 6, 20251 yr setup - you pay for the main app that runs on the headset. You also need to download and install a small PC app which is free. The PC app needs to be active to connect the headset. Setup and configuration is fairly straightforward. I'm usually using a 5800x3d with 4090 with Q3. I get best looking results in MSFS2024 with smoothest gameplay using; Compression Type - Try default. I don't see a significant difference between them. Resolution - Godlike Frequency - 72hz Bit rate - 100 Synchronous Spacewarp - Always On (VD's version of reprojection) I'm using a wfif 6E which is consistently connected at 2400mb/s and I see very few wifi related issues. I believe VD has improved a bit in the recent releases as it used to cause pauses and glitches for me. However, link still looks that little bit better and slightly less controller lag on my setup. Synchronous Spacewarp seems to behave differently at different distances from your eyes, (unlike Quest's link ASW which appears to treat everything the same / near/ far) which is probably how they are getting such good performance in VD. Therefore, unlike quest's reprojection where it will maintain a smooth horizon as well as smooth near subjects, you'll probably see a jittery horizon with VD while close scenery will be smooth. When I look at how beautifully DCS performs at such high resolutions, 90hz using Link, I hope they manage to get 2024 running as smooth and clear eventually. DCS is like a dream come true.
