MSFS with PMDG 777 DLSS4 and Lossless Scaling

Featured Replies

So I don't know if this will come across as clearly as it does on my machine but I tried to grab a couple of very quick videos as I was climbing out of KEWR this morning.

This is with DLSS4 AND Lossless Scaling running LSFG 3.0 in x2 mode with the PMDG 777 displays. I've found the best combination for me is LS for Takeoff and Landing to help with the odd FPS drop and then Native FG so LS off in cruise to prevent the jitter from over-generated Frames.

I am really zoomed in with my phone because this looks pretty darn clear and sharp to me...  Much better than any DLSS technology I have seen before and with the benefits of DLSS and FG.

I mean this is zoomed all the way in with my phone climbing at 3000 FPM while banking.

What graphics card do you have? Are you using DLSS with Frame Generation on? And are you using the latest dlss dll files and amd dll files?

I am still getting a fair amount of ghosting on the altitude tape with my setup (DLSS+DLAA+FG). I am using the latest DLSS 4 files with preset K. NVIDIA 572.16 drivers, etc. That looks pretty good in your video actually and I would love to know your settings and what you did to achieve that.

Thank you.

I have a 4090 which do I wonder if that is a contributing factor but I am also running at 5K resolution natively. I am using the latest DLSS files but I did not copy the latest AMD files.  They actually show blank in my DLSS Swapper.

That is DLSS with DLAA +FG but I am also using Lossless Scaling with LSFG 3.0 at x2  I am not doing any frame locking.  Any frame limiting absolutely tanks my performance for some reason.

I simply run Vsync off with a GSync compatible monitor down to 45 FPS which is about my baseline in the sim and X2 so I get 90-120FPS and the smoothest performance I have ever had in FS.  I would have NEVER been able to do that at Newark with that detail and that performance.  TLOD is 375/OLOD is 175 almost everything at Ultra.

I am also on 572.16 with preset K.

It's absolutely the best I have seen DLSS look.  Even with this same setup and DLSS3 the ghosting was "just" tolerable. I mean it's actually quite sharp in person.  It would definitely give TAA a run for it's money with the benefits of DLSS and FG.

What is LSFG 3.0?

Within Lossless Scaling it is Lossless Frame Generation 3.0  There is also a 2.3...

Oh i never heard of that before, is that another addon? Perhaps that's the missing link for me and could be the only thing that will give me a better readout of the altitude tape.

OK, did a lot of research last night and this is the best information I compiled...

TAA is a fixed AA

DLSS is an AI technology to downsize then upscale the image allowing for better performance and increased detail.  In some games DLSS is also the best looking option, not necessarily in FS

DLAA would be the comparison to TAA.  This is also fixed and very similar to DLSS but without the downscaling/upscaling

Now there are different DLSS "modes" which in Nvidia's terms determine how much the image is downscaled before rendering  Quality I believe is a 33% downscale, Low is a 66% reduction and Ultra is essentially the equivalent of DLAA because it is not downscaling the image.

So this now questions Asobo's implementation at least within 2020.  You can enable DLSS with DLAA as your Super Resolution.  According to Nvidia this isn't how it works and it is either DLSS or DLAA not both.  I actually think this is why people are seeing such varied results.  1.  It depends what DLSS setting you are using, low, quality or Ultra and my understanding is if you are using DLAA which I am then you are not downsizing the screen at all.

Hence why in my case I think Lossless Frame Generation still helps for the FG as I am running in 5K at Ultra with DLAA enabled which means I "shouldn't" be downscaling my iamge.

DLSS- Best performance and supposed to be Best image quality

DLAA- Benefits of DLSS without the downscaling, Best image Quality

TAA- Lower level of AA than DLAA, lower IQ

So if you don't want DLSS, you should run DLAA for the best IQ but it is going to be very hard on the machine, hence why I combine it with FG via Losssless Scaling...

Think my problem is that whilst DLAA looks great, I find the ghosting in glass cockpit displays too distracting.

I’m running TAA + FG on a 4090 in 4K which works pretty well in FS2024 on ultra settings and autoFPS to manage TLOD (get better frames compared to FS2020), with only some dips at airports.
Just missing a bit of smoothness sometimes (frames locked at 80 FPS on 240 Hz gsync screen).

Best regards,

Climb out this morning.  According to the other post linked above, a lot of the reason people are seeing Ghosting is Frame Locking...  Interesting.  I do not run a frame lock.

And the on screen translation is phenomenal.  Hands down the best 2020 has ever looked for me.

TLOD 375/OLOD 175 and almost every setting pinned and rendering at 90-120FPS with FG

And last one approaching the Space Coast...

I mean I am a good 40-50 miles away and everything is in detail...

Interesting. I have taken any framelocks off but still getting significant amount of ghosting, more than you appear to get in your videos (which looks pretty acceptable). That said, I have now tried lossless scaling and combined with the built in FG, just wow, never had smoothness like this before with TAA..!

So let me get this straight. I should run DLSS+Frame Gen Mod+LSFG 3.x (From steam store) and unlock my frames to achieve what you guys have achieved? Is autoFPS app still needed? Do these settings and mods only apply to MSF 2020 or do they also work with MSFS 2024?
