(FS24) In the Clouds and over the Cascades...in a Boeing 736

Featured Replies

Not flying the Baby Boeing 736 for a prolonged period...lasting more than a month or so...brings about a bit of "withdrawal syndrome" for me...🙂...And, so far, in MSFS2024/Xbox, having attempted to fly this airplane about a couple of times (with somewhat mixed results), I thought of giving it another try this week. I discovered that as long as I do not mess with its EFB, things in the cockpit appear normal. However, when I see the MAP page of the EFB...randomly flickering and flashing, I know that's a harbinger of bad news for me in Xbox, since that kind of anomalous behavior, I am certain, would quickly lead to freezing of my mouse cursor, TV screen or/and the aircraft. So, for this flight, I've stayed clear of the EFB, and I could then complete a full flight without any issues at all...flying over an exciting segment of the western seaboard of North America, that I've been meaning to explore since a very long time.

The Cascade Range of the PNW is no stranger to me as I've visited bits and pieces of it in the past. These mountains, distinct from the Rockies (of further east), span from southern British Columbia in the north to northern California in the south. Here for this post, I depart from Whitehorse (CYXY) airport in the Capital city of Yukon (territory) just north of the start of the Cascades and fly south overflying just two en-route waypoints (CZST/Stewart and CYBD/Bella Coola) programmed into the flight plan of the FMC (see EFB Map display). I continue on, for a total distance of ~1,000 miles, over and along the ridges of these snow-capped and heavily wooded mountains, to my final destination of Vancouver (CYVR) in British Columbia. The Cascade Range, part of the Pacific Ocean's Ring of Fire, is abundant with thousands of volcanic high peaks and vents and is also filled with hundreds of majestic glaciers (you'll see some clear evidence in my images below).

For a bit extra adrenalin and excitement and also change of weather pattern from my typical (and mundane...🙂...) flights, I've (manually) set, here, low cloud-levels that seem to hang perpetually around those jagged high peaks and ridges of this chain of mountains (see images). So, I'm literally flying in the clouds, often blinded...🙂..., getting only (occasional) glimpses of those mountain peaks precariously jutting above the dense cloud layers...all the time ensconced in the comfort of my Baby Boeing...🙂...while admiring this raw beauty of natural wilderness...and of a special place on earth...swiftly passing by underneath me...

Finally, rounding eastward, over the picturesque waters of Burrard Inlet, I've landed into ILS Rwy 08R (CYVR) of Vancouver city. On successful touchdown, my Baby Boeing did not receive a water salute for this adventure, but, indeed, nature bestowed its ultimate approval and welcome by casting a magical rainbow across the sky in front of my airplane...🙂... (see last shot) ...

Thanks for viewing...!
