April 4, 20251 yr Hi guys, so booted up FSX some night ago, was going to do a short trip, realized my joystick was giving trouble again(wiring issues) therefore i had no controls and decided not to fly again since the joystick needs re wiring and soldering. So I clicked the X on the top right hand corner, the prompt came up to exit and I clicked yes. Done this many times over the pass 10 years and no issues. Based on research doing such can cause a bug or error in the logbook.bin file which leads to the sim not responding on the splash screen forever. What I did I opened the resource manager and saw nothing, I installed the logbook recovery tool, never worked, tried colleagues logbook files still didn't work, cleared the scenery data cfg, removed the last aircraft I used, cleared the fsx.cfg file and still nothing. I have not viewed the CTD file yet for any other help but if there is a helpful chapter I can look at please let me know. What am I to do now because I really do not want to have to fully delete FSX whipping it clean no remanence and having to reinstall(tired of doing this over the years also lol). I have to much addons and personal mods I don't want to back up because of the time it will take. Any advice appreciated thanks.
April 4, 20251 yr Administrators Have you tried copying the logbook.bin file, placing it in a safe place, then deleting that file and restarting the Sim? If you have the 2 disc version of FSX (Deluxe version) I would start by uninstalling SP1 and SP2 (if installed) and do the Repair starting with disc 1 and then disc 2. The reinstall both SPs. Keep in mind that doing the Repair may put setting and such back to default! April 4, 20251 yr Author Tried that today, that didn't work, still saying not responding on the splash screen for a long while.
April 12, 20251 yr i know I am late to the party, but might I suggest the Logbook Editor by Dan Downs. Just look in the library for " logedit3_364661.zip. It is an excellent Program & easy to use. FYI. The technical term for your problem is a corrupted EOF {end of file} marker. It usually happens quite often when you close down FSX too quickly. As always, make a backup of the file first. Then remove the last logbook entry, restart FS. If it boots, you are done. If not repeat & rinse. It should only take a few deletions to restore the logbook. Hope this helps....
