Will FS11 be a console port?

Featured Replies

yes, it is pure speculation. and you are off base on what exactly the compatibilty is between the DX11 API and earlier hw. see http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2008...nouncement.aspxcan we at least wait till FS11 ships before the slagging and negativity begins :-) ?

ex-Aces Lead PM, FSX SP1 and SP2
ex-Intel LRB native title enablement, ex Intel Gaming and Graphics Samples PM

now Graphics and Multicore PM in Visual Computing Software Enabling.

>can we at least wait till FS11 ships before the slagging and>negativity begins :-) ?Phil, please do not disuade them from bashing FS11, it helps divert the whinning about FSX and if they stop, it would seriously lower the entertainment value of the forums!Welcome back BTW... maybe we should start a FS12 thread for a distraction??? :-)XP Pro SP2-FSX SP2AMD FX60-8800GTS-2 Gigs RAMFEX-GEX-UTUSA-FSGenesis-and a bunch of other stuffComputer optomized by www.fs-gs.com

Any who follows Phil's postings here or elsewhere, what is the hinted time frame for FS11 mentioned above?

Processor: Intel Core i7 [email protected]

Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX670 OC

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3-1866 [9-9-9-24-2T]

Motherboard: Asus P8Z68 Pro / Gen 3

If I'm not mistaken, the hints seemed to point to a Christmas holiday season release in 2010, but Phil is here to correct any misperceptions.I'm voting they name it Flight Simulator X2X.

>Any who follows Phil's postings here or elsewhere, what is>the hinted time frame for FS11 mentioned above?my guess ...Who knows, with Windows7 looming and DX11 I would look for it all to come together Q4 10 or Q1 11 ...just a hunch...

Some sales figures have just been released that maybe put an end to all this console speculation business. MS is losing half a billion dollars a year on publishing video games. Sony is losing over one billion dollars. All this media hype about first person shooters & co making lots of cash are rubbish. MS and Sony make money by selling the hardware, but the video games in fact lose money.Betting that people will buy an Xbox to play FS11 is a very risky bet indeed. Much more likely it'll drive even more gamers to Nintendo.Read more here:http://www.simpilotnet.com/index.php?optio...88&Itemid=10013Christian

Umm .. I am pretty sure MS and Sony have been incurring a loss on hardware sales by selling their consoles below cost in the interests of winning market share and, in the future, making a profit on game sales. In fact, I think the financial year just gone was the first year ever that the XBox division posted a profit ...Andrew

You can use just about any usb keyboard or mouse with the PS3. The 360 on the other hand... all you have is some mini keyboard and no mouse that I know of.

Sony is losing over one billion dollars. All this media>hype about first person shooters & co making lots of cash are>rubbish. MS and Sony make money by selling the hardware, but>the video games in fact lose money.Sorry, but this is not the case. That article you pointed out, was taken from another website, which probably mis-interpreted an article appeared on Kotaku here:http://kotaku.com/5030320/here-are-the-top...sh-money-intakeAs you can see, there are two figures: revenues and profits and they both INCLUDES hardware, which are huge money losers. Fact that Nintendo is at the top of the profits, it's just because they sell a very cheap to produce machine with outdated hardware for an hefty margin, meaning they are the only publisher who does both hardware+software, that doesn't lose money. This is unprecedented in the gaming industry, that always accepted the fact that software makes up for losses for hardware sold under cost, to push the machine and getting more developers on it.Wasn't for the software, figues for both Microsoft and Sony would have been much worse, especially for Sony, since they are still recovering for the huge R&D investments to create the PS3 and to push the Bluray format at the same time. So, it's exactly the opposite to what you said: Microsoft and Sony are both losing money on the hardware, and are offsetting the lossess with the software. Should they fail or not, it will be seen over the course of the entire lifecycle of the machine, which is getting cheaper to build. And, the article fails to mention another crucial thing: when developing for a console, every publisher will pay a royalty to the hardware publisher. This means, both Microsoft and Sony (and Nintendo, of course) will get money for EVERY game that is being published on their machine by any other publisher, and that will be added to the money made by publishing on their own name.
