I start MSFS 2020 and AAO as administrator.  The AAO page shows "Waiting for Simconnect". If I click on Simconnect, it changes to "Connect to Simulator", but does not connect.

I was working fine but it looks like I have done something to cause this problem but do not recall what that might have been,

Sorry, no idea. Not a clue. Only you can know what you did on your computer to get this result.

Just - breaking SimConnect is very hard, next to impossible. This is not done by a misstep or a wrong click. The only way that I know is by messing with the SimConnect configuration files. Or by running an incompatible app (like, trying to connect the MSFS 2024 variant of AAO to the 2020 simulator - that won't work.)

Thank you for the reply.

I did a Windows app repair on FS 2020, uninstalled and reinstalled AAO, and downloaded the sdk file from the Dev mode but still no connection.

I installed the AAO demo version and this connects to the sim ok, so am wondering if it is something else other than simconnect?

Demo and retail are the same program. They are identical, except for the shutdown timer. The two behaving differently makes no sense.

You are making sure that you are using the correct AAO variant, right? AAO for MSFS 2024 will not work with MSFS 2020.

You are exactly right. I have been changing settings, views etc in fs 20 and fs 24 and somehow ended up using the wrong version of AAO in fs 20. So it is now working correctly.
