July 31, 2025Jul 31 This past weekend, I came across a photograph of a very sad looking. Beech B1900D that was in the process of being parted out. The photograph was N15YV, an ex-CommutAir turboprop. An aircraft in my hangar that I just started flying again in the Black Square Analog King Air. I couldn't resist picking up the paint brush and creating a fictional US Airways Express livery for the King Air. I wrapped up the paint today and thought I'd take my new (very old looking!) aircraft on a commuter flight...KIAH to KMSY. As expected in the summer, usually a "bumpy" flight from Houston to New Orleans...I wasn't disappointed today! 96F on departure at KIAH. A quick taxi to 8R for an east departure...quickly airborne just like a typical commuter flight... Settled in at 25,000 feet for the cruise over to New Orleans... Of course, being a regional turboprop, I wanted to "dumb-down" the Asobo Executive King Air Interior...nothing like a utilitarian gray/blue interior... Started the descent east of Baton Rouge over the Atchafalaya Basin... ...and coming up over I-55 between Lakes Maurepas and Pontchartrain... Arriving into New Orleans, typical summer weather...isolated thunder showers...originally cleared for a localizer RWY 20 approach, the weather over KMSY was brutal...vectored south-west of the airport to Belle Chasse to avoid the worst of the weather... ...ATC had me loop the airport from the south, back north over Lake Pontchartrain and then back east toward LaPlace for a revised ILS11 approach...the sun was trying it's best to peak through the summer storm heading west to LaPlace... ...and back on final for the ILS11 approach...storms still approaching from the east...runway barely visible ahead... ...with an expected low visibility approach, and heavy rain... ...and finally safely at the gate...I think the First Officer is going to have to replace the "barf-bags"... Enjoyable flight for me though!!! 🙂 The livery has been uploaded to Flightsim.to day.

Hmm, exactly what a repainter is looking for to spring into action...🙂...Sounds like that kitten I picked up from the Humane Shelter...🙂...a year ago...Oh well... Seriously, your black paint looks great on this one. And a very enjoyable flight and narrative too...! I've had close encounters with all these places ...🙂...I drove on separate occasions once each, when I was younger...🙂... (from Chicago) to New Orleans/Baton Rouge and Austin/Houston, with one night-stop on the way...each trip about ~1,000 miles... The rainy, stormy and cloudy pictures in Louisiana are spot-on (it's one of the rainiest places in the U.S.). I had an interview on the Univ. of Louisiana campus at Baton Rouge. When I arrived there at night, there was torrential rain on-going. I was surely glad to finally turn off the ignition of the car and turn in for the night...🙂...while listening to the wind and rain outside... Thanks for the post...!

I lived on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain for about a dozen years...it wasn't that bad (at least as I remember!) when I first moved there...IMHO, the weather pattern seemed to change after the pandemic (suspected changes in the jet stream)...definitely had more flooding where I lived after 2020!!! I'm sure that last sentence will commit me to the "tin-foil hat crowd"! 🙂 I don't miss the humidity in South Louisiana...but...I do miss the food!!! (Although, I think my heart will be happier for the relocation away!) 🙂 (Pre-) Hurricane parties were also a blast!!! This King Air was a fun one to paint...always like learning new techniques...this one playing more with the comp layer files using Blender and my 2D program. Surprisingly, IRL, I never flew with US Airways...although I flew regional flights many, many times in the mid-west and the north-east. After the KIAH-KMSY flight used in this thread, I took another short flight from Denver to Teluride (based on ryanbatc's recent post of the C750 into KTEX). The Black Square King Air is always an enjoyable flight!
