IBERIA A350-900 over the Pyrenees - Barcelona to Bilbao...

Featured Replies

After my brief (and successful) tryst flight with the 777F in Xbox...🙂...(see my earlier post, if you wish), I got back today to flying the Airbus A350-900 that has been lately sitting idle in my Library...with probably a sense of melancholy...🙂..., been unceremoniously "de-streamed" in favor of my new and shiny 777F. So, today, I streamed it back into action, along with the acquisition of a (fresh) European Livery Pack of new uniforms for it from the Marketplace. I wished to fly this A350-900 in the colors of Iberia, the flag carrier of Spain. For this post, I fly along the northern border of Spain, over and along the Pyrenees mountain range that stretches more than 270 miles between Spain and France, and separates the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of Europe.

At the (virtual) discretion of yours truly, the Pilot-in-command...🙂...; I've made this flight (and route) a bit more interesting as follows. Soon after lift-off, instead of (normally) flying westward towards Bilbao (per the SimBrief FlightPlan), I've instead headed directly north towards the mountains of northern Spain. For that objective, I pre-defined (and saved) two Pilot-created (aka: custom) LAT/LONG waypoints [(1) SPAIN1 (2) SPAIN2] using the (nice) DATA function of the MCDU. As seen on the EFB Map and ND display, these custom data points inserted into my Flight Plan (and acted upon by the lateral navigational guidance provided by the FMC) helped me fly precisely along (and over) the highest peaks and ridgelines of the Pyrenees mountain range.

However, I wish I could say that the Pyrenees Mountains appeared crisp and beautiful today from my viewpoint, as they must be IRL. Compared to my recent (virtual) visit to the South Island of New Zealand and the Southern Alps mountains (that were a pleasure to view from up above), the Pyrenees, from my today's trip, looked somewhat blurry and washed out (see a few images I've included). Anyway, to make up for my (visual) disappointment, this (iniBuilds) A350 performed remarkably well, as expected, from take-off to touchdown, for a smooth flight experience throughout, with its FMC (competently) guiding me along on my chosen route, from (LEBL) Barcelona all the way to the coastal city of Bilbao (LEBB).

Hope you enjoy this collection of images of the A350-900 in the colors of Iberia, one of the world's historic, and also one of the world's oldest airlines.

[Note: The Reg. (EC-MYX), of my pictures below, is an Airbus A350-941 aircraft, actually belonging to Iberia (airline) in the RW, that was delivered in July 2018 and is named after the famous flamenco guitarist "Paco de Lucía". You can spot the Guitarist's name on the front of the a/c in my on-the-ground shot (last but one image).]

Thanks for viewing...!

So many interesting places to explore in Spain via the sim. (Spent over an hour last week meandering about in a Tomahawk just fascinated by the landscape between Alicante and Murcia...well below your flight levels here 🙂.) That last shot of the Bilbao terminal is really nice...can almost feel the sunshine.

Great shots - again !

Seems you like her to fly..☺️

cheers 😉

Thanks much for the comments, John.

Yes, I recall you've travelled a lot in Spain...🙂...especially since MSFS was released. Now the "MSE" days of FSX (if some of us could recall...🙂...) is coming back to me. I'd purchased all 3 (Nothern, Central, and Southern - Spain) for some virtual tourism...🙂..

BTW, compared to the mountainous terrain I was mostly overflying here, I kept myself not too high...maybe ~5,000 ft above the mountains. But, I do recall better imagery in the past in Spain. I will check it out some more for myself.

Yes, pmplayer...🙂...this (ultra-modern) airplane does not lose its novelty that easily...🙂...I will go back to the 777F after I find more cargo liveries in the Marketplace, for the global 777F operators. But, for this one, there are already plenty of repaints over there, and more are coming in...

Cheers...!
