A good Quadjet got even better...A340 v1.0.2...South African

Featured Replies

You might already know there was a (recent) update to the iniBuilds A340-300 airliner, 2 days ago, on Oct.28. And, yesterday, the day after, I caught this update on my Xbox, the v1.0.2 A343 streamed and ready to go...🙂...so, there was nothing to do on my part (the beauty of streaming...🙂...I now recall going frantically hither and thither for updates...in my early FSX days...🙂...). The availability of (prompt and timely) incremental updates for Xbox is something I have never experienced in the last 5 years of MSFS (Xbox users are always the last to get it...🙂...). So, kudos to iniBuilds for keeping us Xbox-users in mind. After all, we Xbox-ers may not be professional-grade simmers...🙂...but nonetheless many of us are indeed passionate aviation enthusiasts. So, this mindset in MSFS (from developers such as iniBuilds) is always welcome, good for all of us actually...🙂...

So, today, I flew this South African A340-300 Freighter. In fact, this is a "Preighter" i.e., an officially (Airbus) approved conversion of the passenger version, because the A340ceo, unlike the A330ceo, did not have a native freighter variant.  I flew ~1,100 miles from FALE (the Intl. airport serving Durban area in South Africa) across the Mozambique Channel to the island nation of Madagascar, terminating my flight in FMMI (Ivato Intl. Airport), on its ILS X Runway 11.

The cruise portion was flown at Sim Rate 4X, effortlessly enabled via the iniBuilds EFB interface, and aided by the thoughtful indication of the active rate at the top margin of the EFB (see one close-up shot of EFB below), so there is no guesswork...nice...The flight was fluid and flawless on my Xbox/MSFS2024 system, throughout.

Hope you enjoy this collection of images of this A343 (Reg. ZS-XSD) that was delivered to SAA ~21 years ago, equipped with (4) CFMI CFM56-5C engines. Curiously, for a couple of years, this a/c was leased to (now defunct) Jet Airways (India); but it then returned to the (parent) SAA for service. It's always heartening to see that this long-haul (legacy) quadjet Airbus airframe is still, untiredly, flying even today. As I flew this one myself, the RW (ZS-XSD) counterpart was also busy itself in mid-flight between Johannesburg and Cape Town, in South Africa.

The special livery, you see in my images, below, reflect the paint for "Team South Africa 2012" (see shot #1).

Thanks for viewing...!

Cool livery. I visited Madagascar in MSFS2020 several times (with the ATR) and was surprised by how rugged, desolate and relatively unpopulated it was. Hard to find any landable airports or population centers.

Thank you, John. Yes, I agree, it's an interesting livery.

It's actually high time we got a World Update for South Africa (and Madagascar), there has never been one either in MSFS2020 or MSFS2024, as I recall ...

Madagascar certainly has some interesting topography...as I found out ...

Cheers...!

Fine shots, thanks for sharing, nice livery by the way..

cheers 😉

Appreciated the comment, pmplayer.

This special SAA livery is part of the 3 FREE livery packs that I found in the Marketplace for this inBuilds A340… was a pleasant surprise for me in Xbox…🙂…as I wait for yet more repaints…
