November 9, 2025Nov 9 My current system will be updated . I was wondering if buying faster SSD M2 memory shows any difference in MSFS 2024 with 3x 4K screens. Current system : [email protected] Ghz / RTX 5090 / SSD M2 2 Tb read 3400 New system : 9950x3c / RTX 5090 / …. ? November 9, 2025Nov 9 I use a 4TB 7400MB/s drive for MSFS and while it is measurably faster than my previous 3400MB/s drive I don't notice any difference regarding the in-sim performance. Perhaps the sim will start a bit quicker but it is marginally at best. I doubt an upgrade will make a noticable difference to the in-flight experience. SSD's tend to become quite a bit slower once they fill up beyond 75% so if that is the case buying a larger drive will have an positive effect, and you might as well buy the fastest drive your platform can support. November 9, 2025Nov 9 SSD Performance results in quicker load times but not necessarily better actual fps performance. Even then not many games can saturate even budget SSD speeds.
November 9, 2025Nov 9 Zero difference. Don't forget those numbers are not only best case scenarios, can be measured only during a limited time until cache or throttling occurs and in sequential reads usually which are the "bigger numbers". Marketing, pure marketing. Even a SATA SSD at those 540MB/s won't make much difference in MSFS (or in most games for that matter) versus those high-speed NVMe SSDs. November 12, 2025Nov 12 Author Quote : ” The speed difference between a 3400 MB/s and an 8000 MB/s M.2 SSD is unlikely to be noticeable in most gaming scenario’s, as the difference in actual load times is typically only a few seconds. While the 8000 MB/s drive is theoretically much faster, the bottleneck is usually the CPU processing the data and the game engine's design, not the SSD's raw read speed. However, games designed to leverage the fastest speeds (like some new titles or those that stream assets during gameplay) may show a more significant difference, and the faster drive offers better performance for other tasks like large file transfers.
