Turbo Arrow VS-mode

Featured Replies

Hi!

I reinstalled JF Turbo Arrow after I switched FS20 to FS24. I have not used Turbo Arrow for a good time.

It flies nicely, the graphics do show their age but I can live with them. The real pain is the autopilot with its click spots. I know IRL Arrow has a very basic autopilot, but I still would like it to be more user friendly. Specially the VS-method drives me crazy. The manual says: "click the blank area to the right of the heading switch to toggle the vertical speed hold mode. Once engaged, vertical speed can be adjusted by moving your mouse over the vertical speed hold clickspot and rotating your mouse wheel."  I do just that, but it is not working. My mouse wheel is occupied to be used as a zoom tool.

What is your method with the V/S mode in the Turbo Arrrow?

Push or pull the yoke or your joystick to your desired pitch and press the click spot.

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

The JF PA28s are modelling planes with single axis autopilots, so the realistic way to manage VS in them, is to use the elevator and trim wheel.

But.... they're bugged and once the AP is engaged, the trim gets locked out.

I personally use key commands for the autopilot.  I use the keys that I have assigned to :-

AP VERTICAL SPEED HOLD MODE

AP VERTICAL SPEED REFERENCE INCREASE

AP VERTICAL SPEED REFERENCE DECREASE

AP ALTITUDE HOLD MODE

....totally unrealistic as the real aircraft (with this AP fitted) doesn't even have a servo on the elevator or trim!   But as the depiction of the single axis AP is so flawed and buggy in these models, it's just a convenient way to control them.
