Default autogen buildings block roads in the ortho

Featured Replies

I am using the Map Enhancement Tool to stream ortho into XP12.  I am using XRoads to stop default roads from displaying, so I can see the roads in the ortho.  The problem is the default autogen buildings are drawing over the roads, so towns/villages do not show the ortho roads.

I cannot work out how to order the scenerypacks.ini to get the ortho roads displayed above the default aut0gen buildings - can anyone help?

XRoads won't block the default autogen as it only replaces the road textures with transparent ones and leaves everything else as is.

You're only real choice here is to use Simheaven to correctly place the buildings or completely block all autogen entirely by changing your scenery order

Thank you, that’s what I suspected.

It’s been an interesting few months since starting with X-Plane 12. It took about a week before I began to feel comfortable with it after coming from the “better” scenery in MSFS 2024. What really kept me with XP12 early on was the feeling of flight. I installed the usual suspects: SimHeaven, Global Forests, TrueEarth, the Map Enhancement Tool for ortho, and ActiveSky for XP12 in passive mode.

Over the last few months, I’ve been gradually removing add-ons and plugins as I’ve gotten more used to XP12’s native world rendering. At this point I’m running a mostly vanilla XP12 — the only thing I must have is ortho. There’s just no way I can enjoy VFR flying without seeing the real-world ground detail.

Last night I removed ActiveSky and its plugin, and I’m getting the impression that clouds have fewer odd shapes than I was used to. Cruising at FL400 in the Aerobask Phenom 300, I noticed better-defined cloud layers below. After descending out of the clouds and looking back up, the underside of the layer appeared uneven in a way you’d expect in an unstable atmosphere. I also noticed more realistic stratus layers. It could all be a placebo, of course, but I’m wondering if some of the add-ons were unintentionally degrading the weather depiction. I don’t have any testing or hard data to support that — it’s just what I’m seeing.

My FPS and overall smoothness have also improved, with 100+ FPS showing up often. Vanilla XP12 plus ortho seems to be the sweet spot for me right now.

Agreed. XP 12.3.0 obviated the need for me to run ActiveSky for real weather. At this point, the only think ActiveSky offers me is historical weather and I pretty much never use that feature so, same as you, I've removed ActiveSky from my list of installed plugins.

X-Plane´s native weather at this point also offers up to one year of historical weather.

Good point. I won't likely use it there either but that just reinforces my decision to uninstall ActiveSky.
