Accurate metars when weather is linked to sim time

Featured Replies

MSFS 2024 lets us get weather that is linked to sim time,  unlike the real time weather of 2020.

However, using SayIntentions and whatever metars the Fenix and PMDG planes provide on their electronic flight bags, it still seems to be linked to real time.  Leaving me with inaccurate QNHs.  I'd quite like to have weather linked to sim time.  Places like Johannesburg you get these crisp mornings with afternoon thundershowers which really adds to the immersion.

Is there any way to get a SIM time metar?

I use https://aviationweather.gov This provides METARs for up to 48 hours in the past.

Link not working, removing comma seems to work.

Ah yes, a real world resource, thanks!  Of course the problem the OP noted still exists, the sim and ALL its infrastructure, meaning EFB and external or internal ATC should use this data. I'm not sure what PMDG does, but someone might file a bug with them?  Would be really nice to finally have historic weather all work correctly!

I believe internal ATC uses historical weather. BeyondATC also added support a few months ago. I don't know about other ATC addons.

Oh, it does? Maybe I'm confused because in spite of an obviously correct runway given that weather the stupid thing was still assigning me a takeoff with a 10 knot tail wind 🙂 I should check again, thanks. And, by stupid I mean internal ATC, not BATC.

Sayintentions doesn’t use sim time for the weather, it will always use live.

If this problem continues to occur in FS24, it is one less reason to switch.

I also don't understand why PMDG, Fenix, and others continue to IGNORE this. Not everyone uses VATSIM/IVAO.

Just found out that Fenix offers this via the EFB.

Well that's going to now be my aircraft of choice, and I'm not even considering the PMDG 737 if they cannot offer this.  Seems a fairly important omission?

Cool! What does this option do exactly / where is it?

inibuild's aircraft also support 2024's historic weather. IIRC they grab the METAR from the sim itself, not a external source.

In the efb there is a setting to grab the metar from the sim.
