MSFS2020 - Xbox control unit displayed during startup

Featured Replies

After problems with Xbox not finding that I was online I did a RESET which has put all my setups back to defaults (unfortunately) and when MSFS2020 first started up after the reset it showed ASSISTs settings (only for the first startup) however I now find that an image of an Xbox controller unit is displayed during startup.

NO big deal I guess but just wondering if there is a setting to prevent this displaying.

Here is a screen shot of what I mean -

Hello,
I encountered this problem when I added an Xbox controller to my hardware setup just for drone views.

Don't worry, the display will disappear after several launches, but unfortunately there are no "official" solutions (settings, etc.) to remove it.

I’m on Xbox and that image on start-up would be still unacceptable…🙂

I distinctly recall that from MSFS2020 but I’ve never seen it on MSFS2024.

AI, not me, tells that if you toggle between “Lock” and “Legacy” in the General Options menu, it goes away.

Give it a try. Good luck.

Thanks.  I will try your suggestions.   This all started after I was having trouble with 2020 asking me to insert disk during startup and I read somewhere about the Xbox app which I ran and it displayed that I was offline yet I could access any website via any web browser. Anyway I clicked on something in Xbox which fixed my problem but resulted in the display of the Xbox controller. Sometimes I really hate Asobo!

I recall it had happened to me a couple of times in MSFS2020 especially after an Asobo update, you know when also our control configuration assignments used to get wiped out…

Anyway, I read that you need to toggle twice i.e., if in Lock, (Lock->Legacy->Lock); and if in Legacy, then (Legacy->Lock->Legacy).

Hope it works for you.

Jarnie:

I am on MSFS2024, so, my User Interface looks a bit different. On your MSFS2020, I think, you can do as follows (there are on-line videos available too).

  1. General Options -> Accessibility -> Cockpit Interaction System
  2. Select Lock or Legacy.
  3. Then, don't forget to Apply & Save.

Good luck.

Thanks for your assistance however that did not fix the issue. I tried toggling twice and then I even tried setting it to 'legacy' without any luck (|with apply and save of course).

I think the only way to get rid of it (unless there is a 'hot line' to the powers that be which I could ask) is to uninstall and reinstall MSFS2020. Grrr!!!

Oh…Uninstall and reinstall in MSFS2020, (including reinstallation of your a/c), should be avoided at all costs, since MSFS2020 is not streamed.
I’m quite sure I didn’t have to do that in MSFS2020.

Let’s see if someone here has any suggestion. I’ll also look.

It is clear from on-line that you’re not the only one with this issue. There are many reports of it including in the MSFS Forum itself, for both PC and Xbox users.

As I said, I recall seeing it a couple of times in MSFS2020 (never in MSFS2024; I’m on Xbox, btw). It just went away by itself, as some have reported.

Suggestions such as the above from AI seem to be resolving it for some, but not for others. Apparently, another of those Asobo idiosyncrasies with no definitive solution…

Hope, it goes away by itself for you.

Thankfully, it’s only on the start-up screen.

Well it is now two weeks since I encountered this problem and would have started FS2020 at least 20 times yet the XBox controller has not disappeared as many suggested that it would.

I know that it is only a nuisance but as it never displayed in the previous 5 years it annoyed me.

I now wonder if it is displayed because I started MSFS2020 from the XBox app over 2 weeks ago (I did this as MSFS2020 was regularly not starting and after researching found that XBox was displaying that I was off line and when I clicked on the 'network status' it also displayed that my network was offline yet the same 'network status' run from Windows started that I was online - how can this show opposing info?).

Anyway could my 'problem be caused by running MSFS2020 from the XBox app instead of from the desktop icon and if so how do I undo this?
