X Plane 12 fail to update

Featured Replies

Greetings,

X Plane was recently updated however for some reason my X Plane failed to automatically update.  This has never happened before.  I am on 12.3.3r1 and when I start the program it says my version is current. Does anyone have an idea how I can force an update?

Thanks in advance,

cbreeze

12.3.3r1 is the current updated X-Plane.  If you want the current BETA which is 12.4.rc2 then you have to check the beta box on the installer.  They do warn that the betas are buggy.

Its not final till laminar says so, could be rc10, than it will automatcally update

...and before we get into the discussion again that every step to a new "stable" version entails:

Laminar puts out "release candidate" versions towards the end of their beta cycle, once they believe that "I guess now we have it". These are candidates, they used to have the "rc" at the end of their names to indicate that, but recently Laminar has changed that to a simple "r", so the current release candidate is called X-Plane 12.4.0r2.

Once Laminar is satisfied that the relevant bugs (note how I do not say "all" here!) that cropped up during the beta run are fixed and no new problems arise, they will simply start calling that version (with the "r" at the end) "the current final stable version".

The internal servers will be updated to handle that version as the new stable version at that point, and everyone who did NOT participate in the beta process (= has not checked the box "check for betas" in his installer) will now get prompted to update.

All of those that HAVE participated in the beta will NOT get a prompt to update...because they ALREADY run that last "release candidate who turned into the final stable version" on their computers.

And now the final stable version of X-Plane will be something like 12.4.0r2 - which still confuses some people to no end 😅, because they are worried that they are not on the final version because theirs has that "r2" in it. It was worse when they were called "rc2", because that convinced people that they were on some "candidate version" and not on the final one even more.
