AI aircraft erratic behavior on the ground

Featured Replies

Hello All, I have an interesting situation in FSX. My AI aircraft are moving erratically on the ground at gate. I have checked and the aircraft are indeed FSX. Just wondering if any of you have had this problem. The planes are twisting around, diving into the ground, and just acting erratically.

Do you use the default AI aircraft or some other kind?

Erratic AI behavior in FSX usually stems from parking spot size mismatches, duplicate AFCAD airport files, or lack of proper taxiway nodes. Aircraft will violently spin, sink into the ground, or disappear when trying to navigate gates that are too small, occupied, or incorrectly defined. [1, 2]

Resolve gate issues by applying these fixes:

1. Fix Parking Spot Sizes and Gate Overlaps

AI aircraft require a parking spot with a radius equal to or larger than their wingspan. If an AI plane is forced into an undersized gate, it will glitch out or despawn. [1, 2, 3, 4]

  • Check that your airport layout (AFCAD) has designated Gate and Ramp sizes that fit your aircraft.

  • Use airport modification tools like Airport Design Editor (ADE) to verify and resize parking radiuses.

2. Remove Duplicate AFCADs

Having multiple scenery files for a single airport (e.g., a default FSX file active at the same time as a custom third-party scenery) breaks AI routing. [1]

  • Delete or disable conflicting .bgl scenery files.

  • Ensure you only have one active AFCAD file per airport in your Scenery Library.

3. Ensure Valid Taxiway Networks

If an AI plane cannot find a continuous, legal taxi path between its gate and the runway, it will behave erratically or simply vanish upon landing. [1, 2]

  • Verify that taxiways are not broken and that pushback nodes are configured correctly.

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!
