Separate sound channels, crazy idea ?

Featured Replies

Hello flightsimmers !!Last time I flew with FS, I thought the realism of the radio communications should be increased. I was flying with a headset (mainly used for network flying), and I thought: why do I hear the engine sound AND the radio in my headset? In a real aircraft, you hear the engine sound from outside, and you hear the radio communication in the headset. So now, I'm wondering if it is possible to have the engine sound and the radio on 2 different channels, one for the PC speakers (engine sound) and one for the headset (radio). Many recent PC have several sound output for external speakers (in the back) and headset (front). Is this possible with one of these advanced Sound Blaster device? Or is it possible through some software development?Maybe it is just a crazy idea...Any opinion is welcome here.Eric

Eric,I had a quick look through the DirectX SDK help files. What you are suggesting is almost certainly possible for applications/modules/gauges which are programmed as add ons. I don't think the output from FS default stuff could be influenced in the way you are suggesting.Doug

Interesting...But now imagine that you can have 2 sounds played on 2 different DirectX channels, do you think we can have them on 2 different sound outputs?I have a very basic sound card, and I have only 1 output. Do you know if the advanced sound cards have several outputs (1 for each DirectX channel)? If so, we could connect the speakers to 1 output and the headset to the other output.Eric
