Setting VS with Altitude Hold Off

Featured Replies

Happy new year everybody.I want to set vertical speeds in an AP but without being locked into the altitude. It seems that VS only works if the altitude hold is active. I want the altitude hold to be off yet be able to control the height with VS only. I have found threads on this before, but only C code was given. It's easy to translate this for XML use, but I could not get it to work.I want to set the angle in the Flight Path Angle of the AP, and knowing the true air speed, calculate and set VS, but the altitude hold must be off. The formula is Sin(fpa) x true airspeed=VScheers, nick

Hi Nick,As far as I know what you want is not possible. The simplest thing to accompish this: set the alt hold to a very high or low altitude (depending if you want to hold positive or negative climb) so that the target value is never reached.Looks stupid, but gives you the result you want :-)Cheers, Rob Barendregt

That is the only way I've managed to get VNav to work as well. Every cycle the "target altitude" is set 100' above or below depending on whether the a/c is ascending or descending.I'm one of the ones who posted the C code to accomplish this.
