April 15, 200224 yr Here's how to set up a light aircraft to fly a box-pattern cirucit at your favourite airport, rather than flying from one airport to another. I added this line to TTools FlightPlan.txtAC#8,BRN,49%,4Hr,VFR,01:48:00,02:03:00,020,F,0001,YBUD,02:20:15,02:35:15,020,F,0001,YBUDYou may have to change the AC number. In my case No#8 happens to be the default Beech Baron. Callsign BRN. He calls up ATC, taxies out, and executes a very nice scenic circuit over Bundaberg at 2000ft. Finally lands and parks again. He departs at 0148 gmt and againat 0220 gmt. Awesome !!!!
April 15, 200224 yr Hi 737jock, this sounds brilliant, I've been hoping to replicate circuit traffic since enjoying it in FS2K with FS Traffic. How important are the timings - if you shorten the gaps, does it increase the frequency of the circuits, or cause problems? Great discovery!:)
April 15, 200224 yr I don't think the timings are important. ATC seems to treat it as adeparture and arrival. Once the AI is airborne, he gets instructionsfor landing again. Just does a nice scenic circuit. This is OK at small airports, but although it also works at anywhere, it may cause havok at major airports with lots of traffic. Anyway, give it a try. Just cut and paste my flightplan, change the aircraft number and ICAO code (ybud) to whatever you want, and recompile :-)
April 16, 200224 yr That was a great idea. I tried it with a string of Balloons, about 7, in my local airport, KTOA. The balloons would taxi, hold short of the runway, but vanish one by one when it came their turn to takeoff.I mixed 3 GoodYear blimps and 707, which taxied and took off OK!Any thoughts, or help would be appreciated. Here are my flight plans:AC#86,BAL,49%,4Hr,VFR,06:00:00,06:15:00,012,F,0001,KTOA,06:30:15,06:35:15,012,F,0001,KTOAAC#58,GOOD,49%,4Hr,VFR,06:02:00,06:17:00,012,F,0001,KTOA,06:32:15,06:37:15,012,F,0001,KTOAAC#88,BAL,49%,4Hr,VFR,06:04:00,06:19:00,012,F,0001,KTOA,06:34:15,06:39:15,012,F,0001,KTOAAC#58,GOOD,49%,4Hr,VFR,06:06:00,06:21:00,012,F,0001,KTOA,06:36:15,06:41:15,012,F,0001,KTOAAC#90,BAL,49%,4Hr,VFR,06:08:00,06:23:00,012,F,0001,KTOA,06:38:15,06:43:15,012,F,0001,KTOAAC#91,BAL,49%,4Hr,VFR,06:10:00,06:25:00,012,F,0001,KTOA,06:40:15,06:45:15,012,F,0001,KTOAAC#92,BAL,49%,4Hr,VFR,06:12:00,06:27:00,012,F,0001,KTOA,06:42:15,06:47:15,012,F,0001,KTOAAC#58,GOOD,49%,4Hr,VFR,06:14:00,06:29:00,012,F,0001,KTOA,06:44:15,06:49:15,012,F,0001,KTOAAC#94,BAL,49%,4Hr,VFR,06:16:00,06:31:00,012,F,0001,KTOA,06:46:15,06:51:15,012,F,0001,KTOAAC#95,BAL,49%,4Hr,VFR,06:18:00,06:33:00,012,F,0001,KTOA,06:48:15,06:53:15,012,F,0001,KTOAAC#96,707,49%,4Hr,VFR,06:20:00,06:35:00,012,F,0001,KTOA,06:50:15,06:55:15,012,F,0001,KTOAThanks.Abe
April 16, 200224 yr I tried to add the default JetRanger at my local airport just to see what it would do. I didn't appear at all. I was curious if it would try to taxi or not.
April 16, 200224 yr Have you tried it with MS Traffic Database Builder, it seems it does not accept same airport as departurearrival.Desert Jockey
April 17, 200224 yr I used TTools and AFCad to setup a new airport with some local fligthplans, the planes that start on another airport lands ok in the destiny new airport, but the planes flying circuits never lands, always made go arounds and dissapear of the screen.Any ideas ??
April 17, 200224 yr >AC#8,BRN,49%,4Hr,VFR,01:48:00,02:03:00,020,F,0001,YBUD,02:20:15,02:35:15,020,F,0001,YBUD >Finally lands and parks again. He departs at 0148 gmt and >again >at 0220 gmt. Awesome !!!! Brilliant! I added seven of these to KGYY the other night, and assigned consecutive numbers for the ID's (N1xxx, N2xxx, etc.), and had them departing at four minute intervals.Within ten minutes of starting FS at KGYY, there was a backup of twelve a/c waiting to depart! It took the tower nearly two hours to clean up the backup, after that traffic was busy, but no major backups... :)
April 28, 200224 yr Is there a way to program a small aircraft to fly continuous touch and go circuits or does he/she have to depart make a circuit and return thereby completing the flight?
May 3, 200224 yr Author I've been having the same problem. It only happens when I use the Piper Cherokee as the AI aircraft. They always make a go-around and eventually just vanish. I've been having problems with the Cherokee even when it starts at another airport.Ray :)
May 3, 200224 yr So far, the technique described above is as good as it gets.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
May 3, 200224 yr Author The aircraft must park at the gate and restart the circuit. They can't do touch and go's.Ray :)
