March 2, 200521 yr hausdingN204SI am new and wondering if someone would take the time to bring me up to speed here............old, fat, balding and not any good at all with flight sims, but want to learn.Makes me qualified? Hmmmnn, need someone to answer some basic questions and to help me get started. Any takers for cheap beer rewards.........?Sid Alpena, Mi [email protected]
March 2, 200521 yr Just start asking Sid... you'll get more help than you know what to do with :-)But post it down below where everyone will see it....
March 2, 200521 yr hausdingN204SOkay, Thank You for the invitation. First, I have a copy of FU from several years ago and it says on the CD for W95....hmmmnn. I'm running XP now, and wondering if there is a newer version of FU that I can upgrade to, or do I have to buy a separate CD?Makes no difference, the money or purchase is not the issue here.Second, I have never flown a sim before and also have a copy of MSN 2002 pro. Do I upgrade online, or buy the newer version of 2004 that I see is out?Thirdly, how the heck does one "fly" one of these things. I see a jillion keyboard commands and can't begin to figure out how to fly forward, read the instructions, and get the plane to go straight and level...........or, maybe its not supposed too? :-) I see a voice command program out there for running these commands, is that something I should be looking at to fly these sims effectively? I would really like to find an article or overview on beginning to open the programs and learning to fly a computer sim, but most just open and start themselves with a tutorial hidden in there somewhere........?Sorry about all the confusion here, but I guess the basic question I really do have is there someplace to go to see or learn more on how to use a sim program?Thank you for any assistance for this obviously lost soul out in cybersim land.......,SidAlpena, Misnowed in and loving it
March 2, 200521 yr Sid,Well, you're right... you ARE starting at step one arn't you :-) We all did as some point so don't feel alone.Let's see now... where to startFirst thing... it would seem you have Flight Unlimited (the first version) which is only for aerobatic flights and not General aviation flying..So if you want to to with FU you will need a copy of FU3 AND FU2 if you want to have larger area to fly in.. FU3 will soon be RE-released as bargin software so hang on and you will be right on top of it. FU2 is available fromt he same place "Sold-Out" so you're just in time. You need to install both at the same time in order to get things right for the expanded areas. FU3/2 combo will give you the NW and California areas to fly over.THEN, you can download all the add-on things now available for FU3..As far as your FS2002 goes... I'd just get FS9 (FS2004) software if I were you. Low prices if you look around..AND, there is full flight training included with FS9 that will take you right where you want to go.. tests and all.NOW... if like you say, money is no object... then you really should get a "CH Products USB yoke and USB Pro Pedals" if you want to have full control for flying AND get away from the keyboard use so much..Have a look in the Avsim store and you'll see them... After that, tons of downloads for FS9 some for pay and many for free.. browse the Avsim library under FS2004 and see an example. Your real world flying experience should be a big plus in flight simming... when you know what it really feels like, it transfers to your sim flying..
March 2, 200521 yr hausdingN204SThank you, thank you.......... :-)Will do just as you suggest and get myself started asap! Have the needed impetus now and the interest has always been there. Thank you for the patience for the newbie here, and I will keep your site bookmarked for the aftermarket and add-ons available.Staggerwing huh? Quite an airplane, have you seen the new copycat composite in kit form? I'll think of the name right after I hit the 'send' button................Sid
March 2, 200521 yr Well, you are most welcome Sid.. you're in for lots of flying fun right at home..I hope you have a computer system that can handle flight sims at their max.. lots of calculations going on you know :-)AND, a top of the line video card is a must to get full advantage of current versions.Griffon Aerospace "Lionheart" ?Nice kit to be sure, although if you think about it, no more advanced for it's time than the original Staggerwing :-)Come back any time and bring your questions.. I would repost down in the lower part and not in this pinned "where to buy FU" thread so everyone else can help you as well. Now keep in mind that it takes all kinds, and you'll hear the advantages of each flight sim stronger from one or another.. I say, whichever works for you is the best one :-)You will note that this group is very friendly and for the most part do not want to make fun of anyone or cause fights for no good reason.Just wanted to add... many of us here also use FS9 (FS2004) so feel free to ask.
March 19, 200521 yr Here is a new one that Jokke told me about that apparently has FU3 for $19.95. He told me about it 2 weeks ago... sorry for being so slow.http://www.interactcd.com/cgi/PrintDetails...000014633079708Please...If you see them for sale, or know that a listed source is sold out, post it on this forum so people can find it. Note, just because someone finds that it is out of stock when they look does not mean it will not be back on that site. Not likely perhaps, but who knows, if it's still listed it's worth a check.Staggerwinghttp://http://www.samgoody.com/http://www.alternate.de/http://www.hmv.co.uk/http://www.sold-out.co.uk/unshock/soldout/.../flightun2.htmlhttp://www.shoplet.com/cdrom/db/72572.htmlhttp://www.compuexpert.com/html/productinf...mited3.shtmlFU2Also, here are a few more current listings that are ready to buy NOW.Flight Unlimited 1 only $2.00http://page.auctions.shopping.yahoo.com/au...5447?aucview=adFight Unlimited 1 $10.75http://page.auctions.shopping.yahoo.com/au...8574?aucview=adFight Unlimited 3 $ 14.95http://shop.store.yahoo.com/chipsbits/cockcfu3ih.html 1.)FU2 no longer available at CompuexpertAlso seen at "PC WORLD" & "GAME" in the UK I bought it directly at a big elektronik/computer store (Media Markt) in Germany.2.)Soldout Sales UK informationSnail mail:Soldout Sales & Marketing122 Southwark StLondon SEI ASW Phone:M-F (0) 20 7928 9655FAX:(0) 20 7261 0540Email form: http://www.sold-out.co.uk/extreme/submit.html3.)HMV's web site has copies of FU 3 Selling for
