Return of the Mountain Monster

Recommended Posts

Guest jonpoint

Well, it finally happened to me. I got my own Mountain Monster! Whilst out testing the Dash8 I came across this giant, living mountain. It's gone now, probably slid back into the water or something. It certainly WAS spectacular though. Over 10,000ft high!http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/6482.jpgI went down for a closer look...http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/6483.jpgI tried flying through 'The Valley of certain uncertainness' but the clouds blocked my view - I assume the Mountain Monster doesn't want you to see which seaside suburb it just ate...http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/6484.jpgAs you fly in towards it, the top opens up and these spiky things shoot out and start dancing around :-eek http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/6485.jpgThe band of clouds around it added that mysterious look but it was the moving, shaking bit that got me - sort of like a sea urchin moving it's spines - scary stuff...http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/6486.jpgAnyway, at least we know it doesn't eat aircraft...Toooooooooooooooooo much fun :-lolJon Point*************************(effyouthree@hotmail.com)*************************

Hi John,It's not complicated, All you have to do is right click on the Red X then left click on properties and read the picture address like thishttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/6594.jpgThen you can change the address like I did in front of the Jpeg number and repost it. To do this I have a folder on my desk, You can see in the bottom left side, shortcut to pics. Inside of that I keep my picture adress from notepad, You just have to hold the left mouse down and wipe that to highlight like this. http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/6597.jpgThen just copy, paste into your messege body, After you upload, cut paste the jpeg file number from the box to the end of the address, Don't close the upload utility box, Minimize it so you can bring it open again. Repeat up to the 5 pictures, preview first, then post. I bet you wish you could spoke proper good inglish like what I do? :-lolI've always been able to understand what your saying, Your better at English then I could ever hope to be with your native languge.Have a good dayHave Fun :-newburnAllan and Puppyhttp://avsim.com/hangar/air/bfu/logo70.gif

Howdy Allan!I haven't been doing any flightsimming for quite some time now, just put it on the back burner for awhile. But I'm not doing that much racing, either. Or any gaming, actually. What I spend most of my time doing is trying to fix this &%$#&*% computer! Some weeks ago Norton SystemWorks did a "Speed Disk" routine (their version of a defrag), and it messed up my system so bad that I had to reinstall Windows. That process upgraded me from versions 5.5 of MSIE and Outlook Express to versions 6.0. Now that worked out okay, BUT... OE occasionally eats my mail, after I smack ENTER twice to end a paragraph and skip a line. I try to CTRL-S save to DRAFTS before I touch ENTER, but the one time I forget to do that, WHAM!, it's gone. I get a "This program has performed an illegal error", etc. And there's other problems... the system likes to pause for about a half a minute once in awhile, no idea why. I'm coming to the conclusion that what this system needs is a complete reformat of C drive, and I really don't feel like doing that.I thought this was all supposed to be fun! :-)

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

"Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"~Richard Harvey, 1/21/2003

Hi Bob,Sounds like you have to reset these inner settings :-lolhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/6613.jpgActually I have some silly things going on with my computer also. For some reason it has lost it's direct x several times in the last few months, I have to reload the OS and then update the Direct x each time, After I do that my FS game doesn't reconize the direct x so I have to reload that to make it work again? Oh well I guess that's part of this computer fun.Take care of yourself Have Fun :-newburnAllan and Puppyhttp://avsim.com/hangar/air/bfu/logo70.gif

Ah well, nothin' like a bit of education ;)Yes, I had the wrong script line. I DO have the right one but after being away for a week plumb forgot about it and used the old one :-grrJohn, it was certainly a surprise for me! I have only seen Henri's posted shots before. In over 3 years of using this sim (well, not much before I got a decent PC - and found Avsim) I'd never seen cloud faces either, still haven't!I flew around it for ages, trying to analyse the bugger. I knew I'd never see it again (once in 3 years...) so I explored it as much as possible. Here's what I found:- It's BIG - 10kft high!- It 'texture only' - you can fly right through it.- It has some relation to clouds!!?! When flying near it, the cloud cover expands to fill the whole sim. I didn't post any of those shots (because they're all white) but, no matter how far you pan away from the aircraft in F5 or F8 (or even F10), it's all white. Once you leave the other side, the clouds recede back to what you see here!- There was severe turbulence when close to it but in the middle it was calm.- It moves as you move - like the eyes in the painting on the wall, if you keep a constant distance from it whilst circling, every now and then it redraws itself, as though it's turning around to face you!- As you near it, the top opens up and (just before the clouds roll in), the spiky bits start thrashing back and forth.I know it's not much to go on but I think the true culprit is the weather system cutting up the graphics. Considering the winds and turbulence, it seemed a bit like a small, intense low pressure system. My weather settings at the time were for light winds, medium clouds with a cool, wet front approaching 50mi away.It crashed when I switched to cockpit view. I hit F3, the aircraft disappeared, so did the monster and I was left hanging at 4kft (banked 30 degrees to left) with the sound of wind rushing around me. I'm laying off the late night pizza snacks 'coz I don't want nightmares about this one :-lolBi th weigh Jon, yor ingleesh is fyne bi mee. Iy fynd et cwite intetayneng two rite lyke thes sumtymes. Allan,Oh sure, I've messed with those settings quite a bit. ;-)Since you're having trouble too, keep an eye out for this one:http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/6629.jpgOr, if things get really bad, this one:http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/6632.jpgHaving fun, one way or another, :-)

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

"Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"~Richard Harvey, 1/21/2003
