You can do this with the fs2k2 planner by dragging checkpoints from the map into the flight plan. Crossing restrictions issued by RC have no relation to the restrictions on the charts...they may sometimes coincide and they may not. Once you are handed off to approach, you can request an iap and fly the rest of the STAR exactly as published.SD's can be handled two ways in RC:1) Include the checkpoints in your flight plan, as with the STAR's. If you do this, RC will expect you to cross within 2 miles of each checkpoint...normally you get a 5 mile tolerance. 2) Include only the last checkpoint of the SD in your flight plan and check the "flex dp" box in RC. This allows you to fly wherever you want as long as you end up crossing that last waypoint. Flex dp is intended for SD's that have multiple transitions that end up in the same place. You can choose which transition to fly when you're at the gate. Greg,RC ignores waypoints at 40 miles out. Center will hand you to APC, if there is one, at 40 miles out no matter what your waypoints are. Then APC will vector you. You have to request IAP from APC. If there is no APC, Center will ask you what approach you want, then you select the IAP you want to complete the STAR.The point of having the waypoints in the plan is so you have a visual reference to adhere to. It's up to you from there on until FAF where you are handed to Tower, if there is one, or IFR is cancelled for you if there isn't. You can always request visual when you're on final as well.If you have a missed approach, then you are asked your intentions, when you can try it again, be vectored, go to an alternate, or hang in the air for a while. You can request IAP from most of these options (I think it is an option for MA as well, I don't remember off hand).
