this is good

i must say this is good , but i have a question about other planes in 2k2, i was cleared to land and as i approached the runway a heavy pulled out in front of me. i had to go around , is there a reason for this , is there a way for RC to see other planes . it seems like the planes are on there own, and not part f RC.Thanks........Camtech

Until Mr. Bill decides to release an AI SDK, there's no way to see ground traffic. Peter Dowson opted to not include ground AI in FSUIPC as it was unreliable, so RC can't see it.

thanks for the reply, im a little confused then with all the as real as it gets hipe.if im coming in for a landing and there is a plane already there, what do i do, that means to me that RC has a major problem.what if im flying a real aircraft and that happens.i dont know Scott from what i was told before i bought was that in RC three they woud solve that problem.

Unfortuantely, it's not an RC problem it's a Microsoft problem. If everyone would complain to then, then maybe they'd put out an AI SDK and we all could use that info.Until then, you'll have to declare a missed approach and go around.RC is as real as it gets based on FS's limitations.

Thanks Scott , what a bummer, i aslo posted again , i guess because im ######.

I dunno, In some ways I kind of like the element of unpredictability with the AI traffic. Sort of keeps the "human element" alive and keeps us sharp on short final watching for runway incursions! :7Michael Collierhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCbeta.jpg

Robert,Well, that makes a lot of us - especially Peter Dowson and JD!

Can't you select a runway to land on, that the default AI doesn't use for takeoff?

BobK

Definitely!

If this was already addressed somewhere, I apologize - does RC "talk" to all of that AI that's in the air, or just you? I read that it calls out traffic advisories to you, and can't CONTROL AI, but does it talk to them too?

BobK

Robert,Here's one solution to your dilemma.Make Comm2 your active and tune to Tower. You may have to use the AFD guide or FSATC airport selection (turn to Tower on xxx.xx) or FSNav to see which one FSATC is using. Then you can listen to planes on the active and can adjust your speed or approach accordingly. At least you can monitor the traffic on Tower and tell what's around the runways. If you listen to FSATC Ground when you're in the air, you can see which planes are heading for what runway. As long as you have Comm 2 set as active, you can monitor FSATC all you desire, on the ground or in the air.

Bob,Depends. Traffic calls between you and the AI, yes. RC calls him as xfic to you, and you as xfic to him. Further, if you're in an area where the canned chatter isn't available, yes too. There'll be the xfic calls, plus transmissions from RC to the other fella (having nothing to do with your flight).

Thanks i will give it a try if i think i know what you mean.say if im about 60 miles out are you saying i will put comm 2 active and then tune to the tower chatter to hear what is going on at the airport and listen closely to the traffic on the ground to so i will know what to expected.also i can still use comm 1 for instuction while in flight, is that correct.

Robert,Yes. However, you can leave Comm 2 as active through the entire flight, then use the FSATC window to tune to whatever freq is in use around you to monitor FSATC. When you're 60 miles or so out, you can use the FSATC "Select airport" function, and auto-tune to the Tower of the airport you are landing at. Then you know who's in the pattern or on the runway.RC always uses Comm 1. It doesn't care which radio is active. That's why you can monitor FSATC on Comm 2. As long as Comm 2 is active, there's no conflict between what RC is tuned to and what FSATC is tuned to. You get your instructions from RC on Comm 1 and listen to FSATC on Comm 2. You also don't get the problem of hearing FSATC ATIS when you listen to RC ATIS (which uses the same ATIS freq). It's all in the manual somewhere.

Another neat trick I use is I made a listing in my a/c notes, bring it up by hitting F10, that lists the tower freq, and the active runways AI uses at my favorite airports, depending on the wind. Then about 60 out, I hit F10, tune to Twr freq, listen in, and then decide if I am going to join them or avoid them. :-lolLarry
