December 4, 200223 yr Greetings All, Received my copy of RC V3 last night and I'm trying to get this ADV DISP thing to work. Whenever I try to dock the thing it disappears. I have tried it on several different panels, I have tried switching views. I have tried moving it all over the joint. I have both the latest versions of FSUIPC and ADV DISP. Can someone help me? It's a shame that RCV3 is totally dependent on such a flaky/temperamental utility! This needs to be addressed. I'll bet I'm not the only one expieriencing this. Thanks. Raul.
December 4, 200223 yr RaulSee the thread "AdvDisplay Problems" dated (approx) Nov 21. From that thread I pulled my response, to what worked for me to fix this up.=====================================================================I've found three things will make this window either blink, or disappear altogether. This is what's worked for me, hope it works for you. If it does, please be here when others have the same problem. 1). Keep the AdvDisplay window at "such-and-such" distance (I think it's 1/4"+, or 1/2"+) from any edge of your panel. It's not so far that it's offensive, but putting the window on the very edge, left/right-top/bottom (for me) has never worked.2). This one's inconsistent. Depending on the aircraft, it's panel etc..., if I put the window above the aircraft panel (not on top of, I mean above as in over sky), it'll disappear. Again, that's inconsistent.3). If I put the window on an area of the aircraft panel that "moves", the window will blink. The attitude/airspeed indicators, altitude/VAS instruments, even (like on the B737) the N1/EGT/N2 instruments... they all move. The window needs be on a "fixed" area.Placement means the world. I loaded every aircraft I had available one afternoon, took the time to find correct placement for each, and saved each situation so I wouldn't have to go through that every flight. It'll seem like an amazing pain at first, but it's really not that bad. As I remember, it was kind of relaxing =====================================================================I'm sure many will jump in on this thread with more assistance.hope this helps!
December 4, 200223 yr Raul,I have yet to find a panel where adv disp can't be squeezed in somewhere.Tell me which panel(s) you're having problems with and I'll try them myself. This thread will give you an idea of where the display can be placed -http://ftp.avsim.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboa...ewmode=threaded - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space
December 4, 200223 yr Guys, I have already read through all of those posts and tried all of the suggestions, nothing seems to keep the ADV DISP window from disappearing. As for which panels exhibit the problem I have been unable to get it to work with any of them, including any of the default panels. Is anyone else having this problem? I can't believe I'm the only one.
December 4, 200223 yr Hi Guys,Have not yet received my copy of RCv3, but I found, when using Adv Disp in RCv2.2 on panels which are aliased, that the only way I could get the Adv Disp to stick was to ensure that the lines it generates at the foot of the main Panel.cfg file must be repeated below the alias line in the Panel.cfg of the plane you are using, e.g.,(fltsim)alias=PssAB-propanel(AdvDisplay)Window=492,714,127,54,-4227327,-131586Font=Arial,-11,0,400,0,0,0HideWindow=NoAutoHide=YesAlsoATIS=YesThis worked for me and hope it might just help. Will check it out when my RCv3 arrives.Quentiniqmfajs
December 4, 200223 yr Just so as you will know there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have had RCV3 for two full days now. I have flown eight different plans with four different ac. At first was a bit puzzled with the adv displays placement methods. After fooling with it a bit found that placing and sizeing it is really not that difficult. From the cessna 172 to B737 it fit and worked with all. It is no pain. It will work and does. Don
December 4, 200223 yr Commercial Member you have to make sure that advdisp is not "hanging" more off a panel than on it.you can't put it too close to the edge of the screen.those were always my two problems. but scooting off the edge of the screen, and putting it totally on top of a panel, never had a problem JD Read my blog
December 5, 200223 yr In the Cheyenne 400 from FSD, they have a "Pilot View" where it just shows you the basic instruments (basically the top quater or so, great while on final). You activate the "Pilot View" by clicking on the panel. If I have ADVDISP docked to my main panel view, it disappears when I go to the "Pilot View". And a real kicker is when you hit W for the "limited" instrument or scenery view and then rotate back to the main panel, it has some strange results (not just ADVDISP but also the aircaft panels). I just undock and re-dock, and move on.. Gives me something to do while at cruise. I usually have ADVDISP reattached to the correct panel prior to the approach phase of my flight.Maybe the only other option is to leave it undocked... But then you have the window border which looks kind of funky. It would be really nice if Pete Dowson or someone could create a Panel Instrument designed for this purpose. A panel you could stick in your aircraft that would have full screen mode (enough area to display all of the RC commands), and a smaller size just displaying a few lines of the critical information like the waypoint you are tracking, etc. But then you would have to click to expand or contract the panel item. I am sure Pete has considered these type of suggestions.. Just a brainstorm... But ADVDISP does work fine for me except for the minor docking issues..Barry
