December 13, 200223 yr After reading all the forum inputs it appears that the solution is to upgrade to sound cards that allow multiple WAV files to be "broadcast". I do not see any solution for this coming from JD or RC generally but expect that this is going to be their final response to this abnormality. My card has no options to vary WAV input. Others have the same problem. I guess it is time to go and buy another one just to get the RCV3 working. I will go and buy another card but hey guys, at RC, when you tested this stuff you should have told us that it would only work with certain configurations! More $ to get it operational. I don't mind that but I have spent weeks trying to get this working and would appreciate your advice to go and get a new Sound card. If it does not work after I spend more $ you will surely hear from me and a lot of other people.Love this stuff, great job on RC software, but you need to let us know where it works and, where it does not, so we can make some decisions.
December 13, 200223 yr I wish I could help. I dont have this problem and I do feel your pain. What is amazing to me is that I have the cheapest sound chip set available, it is on the motherboard (dont even have a card per say) and it is made (I think) by an outsource company from Dawoo (sp?) and I cant even pronounce the name.I use headphones, set DXsound to no acceleration, set the sound config (under XP) for headphones (no speakers, this limited the some sound effects for me, especially in the MOH shooter game) and have current XP drivers for the sound chip. I hear the FS2k2 ATC on comm2, RC chatter (both types) and of course RC instructions.I do hope you get it worked out. Good Luck. December 13, 200223 yr Ron,There are very few soud cards that can't do multiple wavs. Drivers have been updated a lot. Perhaps even the SB AWE 64 can be updated, but I've not looked. There are multiple things on the Creative site that can solve the problem. Now, I don't remember what you have, but do a web search for your sound system and see what's out there. There are few games made today that don't require some sort of simultaneous wavs available (for effects and speech and other things). A few of the people who have found the way to increase the simultaneous wavs on their cards are amazed at what they've been missing with other games. If an ancient EE sound chip can be updated, then everything should be able to.
December 13, 200223 yr Don't give up. First I thought I would have to buy a new sound cardtoo because I have a low-end card but after one night of workand many cups of tea I got it to work. Try different settings, in mycase success even depends on the order you start programs (first RC, then EFIS98). There are many postings here that cover this problem.Hope you are successfullGreetingsStephan (EDDM)P.S. RC arrived Wednesday 11, 13:00 MEZ. THE DAY.
December 13, 200223 yr Have someone tried changing the sound quality slider in FS2002? I did. I took it from high to medium and even down to low. It seemed to me that I gained some speed! (I don
December 14, 200223 yr I had problems with my soundcard, but i just updated the drivers to the newest version - and it worked... Maybe you should try the same first.. :-)
December 14, 200223 yr I have a HP Pavillion 8595c with a PIII and a Rip Tide Playback sound card. V1.8 driver. I went to the HP WEB site to look for more driver updates and none were there for this card. I searched other sites including Microsoft and Rockwell and none at all. I saw on Microsoft that there were problems associated with this card with other games. This PC can't be more than 3 years old but I am getting the impression that this sound card should go to Tuscon AZ in the desert with the old B52's.I will try again tomorrow but looks like a visit to BestBuy or CompUSA is in the offing for Sunday if I cannot get this working. If you know where I can get Rip Tide drivers let me know. HP does not have them for the older ones apparently and I did a Search on the NET and could not find any WEB site that may have them.If I go on Sunday, any recommendations on a good one? If I have to spend a few bucks might as well get one that maybe JD and the gang at RC has.Thanks.
December 14, 200223 yr I have a P4, win xp, and a SB 5.1 It works perfectly...Larryhttp://www.jdtllc.com/images/RCbeta.jpg
December 14, 200223 yr Commercial Member i have p4, xp, turtle beach santa cruz. 0 problems. JD Read my blog
December 14, 200223 yr By the way, running Windows 98, no add on's to FS2K and all the latest updates to FSUIPD and Avdisp. 128K RAM and lots of hard drive left.RCV2 user and that has been running great. MSFS2K Pro. On my way on a round the world trip in the family 777 and "stuck" in Florence Italy. I guess I could get RCV2 going and keep the trip alive but the food is great there and the virtual people! Maybe I can get this fixed before I get to be 250 lbs.Smiles!
December 14, 200223 yr Don,You can never go wrong with a SoundBlaster card. The Turtle Beach is also a great card, but more expensive. For overall general use, the SB works with absolutely everything ever made, and in every computer ever made so far as I know. Any SoundBlaster will work fairly well for games, but it depends on what your total needs are - music, effects, Surround, etc.People with the SB Value are also pretty happy, and most are using the SB Live 5.1! Look at the Creative site for info on each flavor of the SoundBlaster card, or go directly to http://soundblaster.com
December 14, 200223 yr Thanks for the recommendation, I will look into it!Bt the way, I tried continuing my journey around the word tonight and even RCV2 will not work anymore. So, out to the store!I brought up RC and generated a flight and started FS. I heard the "Have a good flight" but that was it. Nothing worked after that. Looks like I am stuck getting Ver3 working. Will try a new card this weekend and see what happens. Thanks for the advice!~
December 14, 200223 yr For everyone's information:Asus P4PE has an onboard SoundMax Integrated Audio chip. This is an Analog Devices produced chip. The driver version I have is 5.12.1.3520 dated 9/6/2002.According to their blurb, it supports everything. Here's a snip:"The SoundMAX Digital Audio System is the industry's highest performance and most reliable audio solution for business professionals, audiophiles, musicians, and gamers. SoundMAX Digital Audio System can output 5.1 channel surround sound and features state-of-the-art DLS2 MIDI synthesizer with Yamaha DLSbyXG sound set, 5.1 Virtual Theater
December 14, 200223 yr "I brought up RC and generated a flight and started FS"Hi, is this a typo? Maybe I just don't understand it, but are you starting RC first, then starting up FS? Just curious, as this doesn't seem like a workable sequence.Best, Rob
December 14, 200223 yr Just a typo Rob. I went back to the old RCV2 procedures, NAV3, export, FS, loaded plan, "FLY", then queued the Adventure. Will try it again today BEFORE my evening cocktail.
