climb and maintain (secret)

Featured Replies

I've tried a few flights from EGLL and on each occasion I'm told to climb and maintain but not given any height. I asked to see the command in text in case it was a sound problem but even then there was no altitude given. The flight plan in each case did have an assigned altitude so please can anyone tell me whats occuring.Regards Pat

Yes Sir.. Check the altitude you entered into RC. I once entered it incorrectly and received exactly the same thing. RC looks for altitudes in thousands of feet. 230 is FL230. 50 would be 5 thousand feet. For every flight plan you enter make sure the correct atltitude is reflected in the controller window in RC.Larry

Thanks Larry for the prompt reply. You were exactly correct in the reason for RC not assigning an altitude. When I checked in the controller window all details of the flightplan were there except the altitude. So if you don't mind, my next question is - I imported the FS2002 flightplan generated by Nav3 into RCv3 from FS2002 so why did the altitude not show in the controller window.Regards Pat

I am not a programmer so maybe JD needs to reply. But I do know that for every flight you take, you need to ensure that the altitude you want to fly at is correctly reflected in the cruise alt window which is available by clicking controller info. All the best...Larry

Thanks anyway Larry for your help so far. It's given me a fix but maybe the powers that be are needed for the solution.Have a great Christmas Best Regards Pat

Pat, I'm using FSNav to export fs2k2.pln files for RC use, like most I think. The altitude check boxes referred to always have something in them. I can change any of the 3 (dep, ctr, arr) in any combination I want. This info is stored so that if I select this .pln again all those settings will remain as I last left them. Might check your .pln file to be sure it has altitude data.Best,Rob

Altitude from the pln file is not written to RC. It must be manually entered, as you stated, in the altitude boxes. Note: The altitudes listed for Dep. Center and Arr. are transition level altitudes. These are always FL180 in the USA. The Cruise Alt is where you enter your requested alt for the flight you are taking...Larry

each time a plan is used in rc v3, a small rc3 file is created in the directory the .pln was in. in this file i save a lot of information about how that plan was set up, including the transition altitudes and the cruise altitude.if the cruise altitude comes from the plan correctly, and is changed before starting rc, that new changed altitude would be used in the future. if the altitude is changed to a rediculous value, that value will be used the next time.

And what exactly is wrong with entering 51000 into cruise alt? Who says I don't want to fly half-way to the moon? :-lol

I'm using the NAV 3.1 beta and the cruising altitude imported just fine into RC3. It is displayed after the plan is loaded in the enroute section in flight level form. So far I've only flown the medium twins (Beech 1900) below FL180 on shorter runs so perhaps that might make a difference.
