December 14, 200223 yr Using Flight Deck companion and RC3, when taking off the PNF calls 80 knots and inmediatly after that everything freezes. I'm able to replicate the problem every time. If I change the priority from High to Normal fs2002 will work fine again. So the High, Abovenormal, Realtime settings are a solution for some. I bet anybody using FDC can replicate this also. Maybe other add ons will give problems also.
December 15, 200223 yr Yep, same thing happens on my system when 'speed active' is called, and there seems to be some strange interferance with the landinglight and panellight when a sound is played. So far i can't get RC and FDC work together. Apart they work great and smooth.
December 15, 200223 yr Author Then the priority fix, again *Is* a temporary fix that can impact all users if we don't find a final solution. Well, in my case I just got an old PIII I had, installed WideFS and RC runs great. But, I would like to use it in the same computer!
December 15, 200223 yr Author JD I'm aware of the RC, FDC problem when loading FDC first, so i've tried both ways. I've even copied a dummy file to try to prevent the error you get when FDC is started before RC and you press keys. Nada. the same. Still, I got the freeze and the only way to fix it is bringing down RC to normal priority. The problem is replicable. Just load FDC and RC (RC in High Priority mode) when the speed active call is made by FDC everything freezes (or becomes extremely slow) the only way to fix this is bringing the RC process to normal again and voila, as if nothing ever happened ;)
December 15, 200223 yr Hi JD,Yes i do, first RC and then FDC. I also had to give FDC low priority because without it the cpu would be overloaded immediately (100% processing all the time) and a frozen screen. Hope you will find a solution because i like these programs very much. After the speed active call and the freezing i paused fs2002 and restarted fdc, but i got a message that all key slots were occupied and should restart fs. Hope the above is of any help. O, just one thing, i used to get some information from FDC via AdvDisplay, but since RC i don't see this anymore, isn't the refreshrate of RC too high maybe? Very best wishes and keep going this great thing called RC.
December 15, 200223 yr Well, seems i found a solution :) that even didn't crash the programs although i crashed (unprepared takeoff and stalled). Kind of a contradiction to all that was written on the priority subject. I gave everything LOW priority, even FsMeteo. And now i could take off (the landinglight just dimished short after the airspeed active call. I waited for the freeze but it didn't come and in the excitement i lost control and crashed short after takeoff :( btw, the voices sounded good too! Hope this is help.
December 15, 200223 yr Author ** I posted this in the FDC Forum, so Dave can take a look at this also **Using either of the programs (NOT at the same time) will not cause a problem. So It's not FDC nor an RC3 problem what I'm experiencing. the problem becomes evident (and completely replicable) when taking off and FDC makes the 'speed active' call In my case Radar Contact is set to high priority to correctly function (it has a slow voice problem that is corrected setting it to run in high priority mode) While in normal mode this problem i'm describing will not happen, but then RC will not function correctly when used with FDC.The computer freezes when FDC makes the call 'speed active' the only way to unfreeze the computer is to bring Radar Contact to normal priority again. So, there is 'something' that FDC and RC3 are sharing. and THAT something is trigered when FDC makes the 'speed active' call and at that time a resource competition begins. Not when playing checklists, not when saying ok on the right, ok on the left. the problem is when making the 'speed active' call only. Dave, simple question: What is FDC doing with FSUIPC or stand alone after making the 'speed active' call?
December 15, 200223 yr Author Interesting... I tried your fix and it works... no performance hit in fs2002. What I did was create a batch file to call Fs2002 in Low Priority mode. ActiveSky, FDC and Radar Contact were later started automatically with the Auto Run program from Jose Oliveira. (they all start in low priority also because they use the same priority mode fs2002 was started with.
