2nd RCv.3 Flight...Another Complete Success...(long)

Featured Replies

Well this time I flew from CYUL to CYYZ. I wanted to practice a hold, so I set the holding probability at 100%. Well, I was offered delay vectors or a holding pattern. I took the pattern naturally. Got my instruction to set up for my hold. Shortly, the controller blurted out some instructions about a hold at (?) YYZ. Although I obviously missed the part about holding at 'x' distance from YYZ, I got the part about maintaining 17000 in the hold and the heading to fly. In retrospect this quick instruction added realism, telling me that I had better listen up! Anyway, soon after that I (my pilot voice) said "entering the hold". So I just flew the hold with heading select and flew 10 mile legs as I had requested. I had wanted to create a fix in DF734's FMC, but I missed the instruction about the distance. I've only read parts of the manual :-shy so I didn't know how to ask the controller to repeat the instruction. Anyway, I thought it was fantastic. After one loop, I wanted to see how ATC would get me out, so I declared minimum fuel and was promptly cleared out of the pattern and told to maintain my own navigation. More on that in a minute ;). Soon thereafter approach gave me vectors to the runway. At that point I requested a different runway and was granted it and then vectored to the localizer.Well, I met Bill...He gave me s***t for improper fuel planning and a mini-lecture on the topic. All in all...it was a REALLY pleasing flight.I'm completely happy with my purchase of RC v.3 so far.Adam

if you have pilot autoreply on, there is no repeat. maybe you should switch autoreply off, and then you have to acknowledge each transmission. if you didn't hear it, by default ctrl-shift-/ is the repeat key.if you ask for the repeat too many times, you might not meet mr bill, but the critique will question the amount of wax in your ear

Turning autoreply off now! Again, I gotta read the manual. I've been having great success without much reading. I kinda like to 'trigger' my own replies anyway. That's what I was used to in the v2.2 samples.Next I'm going to find out how to get OTTO onboard! ;) She, or I guess he now, can handle the radios and I'll fly the plane.Reading RC manual = mild entertainmentFlying with RC = excitementActually I don't mind reading. :( I had "From The Ground Up" tucked away behind my Math binder today as my students wrote a Stats test. I was enriching my understanding of ATC and Canadian Airspace. Adam

Just beware that if Otto handles the radios she will autoreply, regardless of the pilot autoreply setting, so you won't be able to ask the controller to repeat the transmission.Personally, I prefer it that way, with Otto handling the comms., while I handle the plane, but you do have to listen to every word that's said. I also have autoreply set off. This allows me to switch back to the pilot if I'd prefer not to autoreply in a particular situation. For example, Otto will always acknowledge crossing restrictions, but if I switch back to the pilot I can reply 'unable' if necessary.Ian
