December 26, 200223 yr I have installed RCV3 to FS2002 using the full installation. I am using Windows 98 with Pentium 2 processor. I start FS2002 and load flight plan created with FSNav 4.5, then load weather. I then start RCV3, load the flight plan. I have everything set according to the manual for RC. When I go to FS, the advdis box shows up. It shows weather and CD options. I hit 1 and the ATIS shows in box and audio plays. When I select #2 for CD, it says standby, then slelect runway shows in box. I get no audio whatsoever after the ATIS plays. It seems like RC is going through the motions of working because text in display box changes each time you make a selection(1 or 2), just no audio... I have also tried loading RCV3 to C drive instead of program files directory with no sucess. I am not sure if it makes a difference, but I also have RCV2.2 installed at the same time. One thing I did notice, but again, not sure if it is problem or not, when I go to root directory for RCV3 there is a icon for RCWavUtil.exe. When I double click on this I get an error message saying--Component 'RICHTXT32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.I have not tried loading RCV3 to FS2000 to see if problem could be with FS2002. I have read the installation and user instructions and I don't think I have missed anything, but could be wrong. I have also checked website FAQ's with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.jmea147043
December 26, 200223 yr Jim,It looks like you are flying out of a non-controlled airport (no tower/ground/cd), so RC is waiting for you to enter what runway you're taxiing to. Once you do, you'll announce you're taxiing to runway xx. Then you are shown the list again with "Take-off", and you announce you are taking off from runway x for whatever direction you select.I suggest you try the tutorials to get the feel of the program first, or at least fly out of and into controlled airports until you get the feel for V3.Also, I recommend you uncheck "ATIS Messages" on AdvDisp. Right-click on it when it's docked and the menu pops up.
December 26, 200223 yr You're not on your own........My problem is exactly as you describe. I too am trying to run the full installation of RC3 with FS2002 on a Pentium 2. I have tried creating flight plans using FSNav and the default FS flight planner. The results are identical to your description, no audio whatsoever except I don't even get ATIS.I also have the an error tring to run RCWavUtil.exe, the message states "Failed to load control 'MMControl' from MCI32.OCX. etc etc."It was annoying to say the least to spend some four hours installing the software to get such a result.I would be very appreciative of any suggestions that might lead to a fix-it. Thanks.
December 27, 200223 yr If you're not getting any sound you probably have a really old single-channel sound card. There is some help for this, but it didn't work for everyone. There are 20+ threads on this throughout the forum.JD will have to tell you what to do to get the MS control files. What OS are you running?
December 27, 200223 yr I am using Windows 98. Computer is a little over 3 years old. Not sure what you mean by single channel sound card. I am able to play stereo music..One thing I did notice is that if I start RCV3 without FS2002 running and go to options and select airline name and call sign that it will play back okay. If I start FS2002 and try the same thing, I get nothing. I am trying to fly out of KMSP. I have also tried to use the tutorial flights with the same results - no audio at all. I am assuming that I don' have to move the wave files in RCV3 to FS, although I did try it with no luck.
December 27, 200223 yr Commercial Member rcwavutil is for recording wav files. it has nothing to do with playback.like scott says later in the thread, it's probably an old sound card that can't handle multiple channels, or you need an updated sound card driver so you can play multiple channels. December 27, 200223 yr Not real sure. Compaq 5660 computer. Going to device manager and checking sound I have ESS Device Manager, Maestro MPU401 Devices. I guess Maestro card. Driver for this is ESS Technology. Hope that helps. I am not sure if there is an actual sound card or if it is on mother board, if that is possible.
December 27, 200223 yr I used to have an ESS card in my old machine and similar problems were experienced with other games. That was years ago and when I got my next computer it had a PCI128. The PCI128 had exactly the same problem as you are describing when running RC. And a couple of other beta testers also had the same problem. So I changed to a SB Live, and everything works well.I don't want to jump the gun prematurely but I'm willing to bet 99% it's something to do with your soundcard hardware/brand.Subs
December 27, 200223 yr Commercial Member if it is a chip on the mother board doing the sound, you may need a sound card. most mother board sound chipsets may not handle the extra sound channels to play sounds from multiple apps (fs and rc) JD Read my blog
December 27, 200223 yr JDMy sound card is Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI, Hardware Version 02.The driver is dated 8-17-1999 and supports 3D stereo sound. For what it's worth, I haven't had problems with any other games type software in the past.pbayley
December 27, 200223 yr Single-channel means it can only play sound from one app. Here's a couple links that may or may not help. This Creative response may help out as information about how single-channel cards can be used as semi-multi-channel ones.http://ftp.avsim.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboa...rum=DCForumID31This is Compaq's support page for the Presario 5660, win98, however, Compaq does not have a driver update for audio. Their site is not organized real well.http://www29.compaq.com/falco/sp_result.asp?Model=3110&Os=8This is the ESS Tech site. See if you can find anything for your sound.http://www.esstech.com/index.shtmI don't know what else to suggest. That system is pretty old tech and it may be difficult to run a lot of games today.
December 27, 200223 yr Commercial Member stereo is not the issue. when we say channels, we mean multiple, simultaneous wav channels. in other words two programs can play a sound simultaneously.other games are single apps, that play multiple sounds, but it is still one channel for one programhave you checked for the latest drivers? did you read scott's post here about how creative says to overcome the multiple simultaneous channels? December 27, 200223 yr Thanks jd. Will check out sound cards.Just checked Soundblaster web site. Their cards can process up to 131 channels, is that sufficient? What about 16 or 24 bit, which is better? Thanks.
December 27, 200223 yr Hi,The Creative Ensoniq PCI sound card doesn't support Simultaneouswave files. You can get this information by clicking on "compare" on the Creativesound card site.I have the same problem. P2 450 with Ensoniq PCI. Am on my way to pickup a newer card.CheersArnold
